There is a possibility (but by no means confirmed yet) that my next posting might be to Canada. Borden, near Toronto, Ontario to be precise.

I've been doing a lot of head scratching as to how I would get my horse from Cyprus to Canada and now I've turned my attention to my guns. Does anyone know how easy/difficult is is to import shotguns into Canada? What are the firearms laws like there? Will I be able to get those rifles after all? (rifles are illegal here in Cyprus). Also, does anyone have any idea of what the hunting's like?

Thanks for any advice offered.

The hunting in Canada is tops, the gun laws suck! Typical British distrust of their, upstanding, law abideing, citizens!

You lucky bugger! I hope it happens.

My knowledge of Canada is only second hand but I have no doubt once you are there - if not before - that you will find lots of good hunting opportunities.

As for the anti-gun rubbish it will certainly be better than Cyprus and probably on a par if not better than the UK.

Good luck on getting your horse there.

Nitro, I'm downloading those links as I type this. I found a few other related sites. The firearms law seeems a bit more relaxed than the UK system. You have to pass a firearms safety test and apply for a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). Handguns are restricted, but hunting rifles aren't. The Canadian system allows non-residents to apply for a PAL - which is handy. I should be able to import my guns, but it will probably be easier to sell them. They're not that special and I can always get some more.

The posting (if it comes off) is for two years & if I don't get it I'll probably be off to Northern Ireland instead, but thats OK as well. Probably not quite as many moose or bears, though!. As for being a lucky bugger, they could have sent me to South Africa - where there is a British Army Training Team, but no posts for my trade!

Anyway, in the meantime I've got everything crossed!
