You Searcy fans might be interested to know that Cabelas has just listed a .577 on their website for $16k.

Here it is:

Nice!

Hey Curl, are you going to the DC Gun show in Fairfax in a few weeks?

I'll be there on Saturday.

Clark,

When is it? Is it at Dulles Expo?

Usually I don't make it to gun shows during hunting season, so I haven't paid attention to it.

Curl

Ha! Ha!

If I am not mistaken about which rifle this is...

2 months ago that gun was owned by a fellow in Arkansas. A real nice guy to talk to. I offered him $11K for the rifle (which has had less than 20 rounds through it) but he wanted $12K. A few days later someone in Texas bought it. I assume he paid the $12K that the owner in Arkansas wanted. It was a good price because the same gun runs $18K new.

The original owner thought he wanted a .577, but after pulling the trigger a few times, he opted for a lighter caliber in a vintage Brit gun.

The second owner bought it on a lark.

And the third owner has only had it a short time.

This probably says that few folks can stand up to the recoil of a .577!

Curl:

November 18 to 20 at the Dulles Expo.

I hear you about putting hunting first. I haven't been to the gun show at Dulles before and am looking forward to it!

Are you going to SCI or DSC in January?

Clark,

I may try to cruise by there. I am scheduled for a hearing in Richmond on Nov. 18, so could make a big circle. But on the other hand, Nov. 19 is the opening day of rifle deer season in these parts.

The Dulles show has been something of a disappointment the two times I have attended. But having said that, I will admit that I bought my .45/70 Pedersoli at the last one. So temptation can lurk there too. It's a better than average show. Nothing like Las Vegas Antique Arms Show or the Vintagers, though.

You will like it if you haven't been there. I have several friends who rent tables to display (and rape and pillage).

Regards,
Curl

P.S. Your close proximity makes it a no-brainer to attend. It's a 3 hour drive for me, so a little more difficult. If I were as close as you there's no question I would go.

Hey 500, I'd bet the second owner bought it for the same reason you wanted it, to sell it for $16K, and make a nice $4K profit! WHAT-CHA-THANK??????????

You're right though, not a lot of folks need, or want a 577NE after trying one for a while! I had one a few years ago, and I have absolutely no drsire to own another one!

500grains

Did you really want the gun or were you just
playing with him ?

Dugaboy,

Exactly. But you don't or can't make $4k if
you don't buy it - 12k would have to be the
cheapest, good 577 NItro for a long time ?

500nitro,

When I make an offer, I am serious about it and stand by my offer. I would have paid him the $11K and shot a couple of elephants with the rifle as I would about to leave for an ele hunt in just a few weeks time. But I recognize the gun is beyond my physical ability and would have sold it upon my return from hunting.
