      #40008 - 29/10/05 11:21 AM

Will any of the US based forum members be going to the
Las Vegas Antique Arm Show - Feb 2006 ?

I think the dates are approx 10 - 12 Feb.

If so, I may well be in LV at the same time on business
so would like to organise a get together - OK, piss up
where we can try NitroXpress Safari Sundowners !!!

Please post inentions ON THIS FORUM
and closer to the time we will do a collective email to
firm up ideas if plans come to fruition.

Sounds good, I haven't been to the show for years. I'll see what it looks like in January.

I think it is only fair to have Mehul mix them. It would be nice if he could come also. I could bring a rifle for a bit of shoot if anyone know where to do it at.

The Antique Arms Show is Feb 10 - 12, 2006 at Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

You can view the website at this URL.

I plan to be there, and you can bet I will bend an elbow.

Mickey,

A shooting range I think exists in LV where you can hire
all the naughty things we aren't allowed over here. I am not
sure if they will let you shoot a Big Bore double though !!!

Re the drinks, did I see you mention somewhere that you
were shouting everyones drinks for the night !
(that should generate some more interest)

Who do I look like, Judge G?

Hey let's invite Judge G.

I have a good friend that lives in Vegas. He could probably set up a group dinner in a private room if we wanted.

Mickey,

Re group dinner in a private room if we wanted.

It may well be needed as both the Shot Show and
the LV Antique Arms show are both on at the same
time so we will have to book ahead even if it is
just a table in a Restaurant.

Yeah, invite Judge G - what about Ray.

500Nitro,

Las Vegas has plenty of facilities to accommodate the two shows and much more. Have you been there? The whole city is geared to hospitality. We should have no trouble finding a restaurant, etc.

I think this is the place you were referring to that rents machine guns to shoot, etc.

The Gun Store - Las Vegas

See you there!

CptCurl,

Yes, have been to LV twice.

Have been to the Antique arms fair once and
the Shot Show twice.

I agree that there are lots of facilities but when the Shot Show
is on it is harder to book bigger tables for long dinners - they
like you in and out.

Then again, I tend to stay on the "Strip" and not venture far
away from the main places so local help would be good.

Re The Gun Store - Las Vegas - I think that is the place.

Mickey - what gun will you bring ?

I'll be there with a table at the Beinfeld Show. I'll have a Searcy or two there and will invite Butch (if he doesn't have a table himself) who is not far away in Boron, Ca. His shop is a great visit for anyone going to Vegas.

I might add that there is an incredible wildlife display at the Bass Pro Shop in Vegas. This is not a lil shop but a HUGE extravaganza. Multiple African game in scenes quite unbelieveable. Don't miss this place.

Purdey and H&H are always there at the Beinfeld show. German gunmakers, too. Best show in the world.

There is an unfortunate side to Vegas. There will be ads by unfortunate young women who cannot afford but the skimpiest of clothes. You would think that churches would take care of these young waifs, but there may be too many to help. The photos of these poor young things just wants to make you hold them close and take them home.

I will be there (of course I live in Vegas). Look forward to meeting you. I belong to a gun club here if you want to shoot. The Mandaly Bay has several drinking establishments in it that should serve the purpose.

Pete,

If the young women spent more on clothes and less on business cards
they'd be OK.

All I ever remember is that the cards are plastered everywhere you go
outside of the main strip and IMHO it made LV look messy.

Just returned from LV. My son and I visited the Gun Store. I tried the Thompson M1A1 and my son used the H&K MP5. It's a lot of fun for us Australians that don't have access to these firearms. However, the range officers insist to mount the targets upside down (Bin Laden and Saddam) because of muzzle rise. The idea being that muzzle rise will place rounds in the body area. This made little difference to us as we hit what we aimed at.

Peterb,

How do you think the Beinfeld show has been affected by the relocation to Mandalay Bay from the Riviera? I have heard a number of complaints. It appeared to me that the number of displays was down last January.

I would be interested to hear your comments or comments from others who attend this show.

Thanks,
Curl

The Vegas show has never been very vendor friendly, but last time was absolutely horrific. The Mandalay Bay people were complete assholes. Furthermore, the show was on an upper level and the ramp was very steep and high. A second show was also going on so the ramp space was VERY limited. I got there an hour before setup time and waited 3 hours in line. When I finally got up on top the Mandalay people ORDERED us to leave our keys in our vehicles as we went inside to find our spaces. Naturally we said we would then locked our vehicles as we were not nuts. Going inside, we were showed our table spaces but then arguments insued between the show people as to whether we could unload to our tables before we got our badges. To get badges, you were NOT allowed to simply go through the doors to the badge area. You had to go downstairs and all the way to the front and then somehow find your way with poor signs to get to the badge area again. This, of course, delays everyone else unloading. I said I don't need no stinkin badge and some dildo trying to keep me from unloading didn't want my foot down his throat so he went somewhere to bully someone else.

These problems will not be there this time as the show will be on the ground level and we can cart right from the parking lot. The area is bigger than the Riviera and all three shows will be under the same roof.

This is the best gun show in the world. Want to order a gun from Purdey, H&H, or some Austrian custom outfit? They will be there! Want to see what a 4 gauge looks like? There will likely be at least a dozen single and doubles there. New guns, the finest antique guns of all time, and about anything else you can think of will be there. Best of all, I'll be there with fine gunstock wood and a couple Searcy double rifles.

I forgot that they moved locations. I went to the show at the Riviera.

winmar,

That's crazy putting the targets upside down. It only take a few minutes
of instruction to teach someone how to stop muzzle rise or you can always
"walk" the bullets up to the target.

I used to get people to aim front left foot and the bullets would stitch
the body from left foot, through the crotch to the right shoulder.
Always looked good.

Pity the H&K MP5 didn't have the 3 round burst on it. It's one
of the best features ever.

Well, a least we'll have some fun.

Will there be more DR's for sale here than at the up comming Dalas Show?

Peterb,

I am glad to hear that they have worked out the issues at Mandalay Bay. That will help things a lot.

It is also good that the Antique Arms Show doesn't conflict with the SCI Show at Reno this year. For some reason the dolts scheduled the two shows on the same weekend last year.

I agree that this is the best show going.

Mickey,

I'll let you know in January though I'll try my best to come. If I make it, then a few different cocktails would be my pleasure depending on what ingredients are available in Vegas.

My only problem is that I am in the initial stages of a very new business and have no idea what is likely to happen by the show date.

Best wishes and good hunting, everyone!

I would like to make it to the show in Las Vegas although I think I might have to be in Tasmania about that time.

Also if you are able to come to the USA for a couple of weeks, the Dallas Safari Club show will be held Jan. 26-29.

Are you going to SHOT show? I dont have a booth, just cruising around saying g'day

Thanks for the info about the other gunshow - I hope I have time for a look there.

RGP - do you go to Dallas SC? I will be there too - be good to meet up if so.

If anyone is interested in having a chat about our hunting, I will be going to Reno, Dallas, then Dortmund, stop in at London, NYC, then onto SHOT show, SCI fundraisers at either Birmingham Al or Charleston SC (havent decided which one yet) and the Altanta GA on the 25th. Always keen to meet up with Nitroexpress members for a chat and maybe a 'brew' , if the occasion permits.

Cheers

Matt,

Yes I have to go to the Dallas show because I've got to go to booth #247 and get fitted for a double rifle. I've never been to either the Dallas or the Las Vegas shows before.

I'll be glad to see you there and show you the beer and Mexican restaurants that can be found in abundance in Dallas.

Yes, I will be going to SHOT show but between 9 and 5 I am pretty
much flat out doing business - after all, I go there to work, not have
a holiday !!!

I also have to make time to go to the Arms Show and dinner and
drinks with everyone from this forum, hence my reason
for the original post.

Probably best to book a time to meet at a certain location.

WE can meet at my table during the show. I'm at the Beinfeld Show. I won't know my location until the show itself. There is a fine show catalog and it has a map and list of table holders and their location. It is free, too.

Butch's number is 760-762-6131. He will come, too, but I don't know if he has a table at the Shot Show or not. He will have a booth at the Safari Club show in Reno in January.

There are many really fine buffets in Vegas which would be good meeting places in the evening. The only bad one is Circus Circus. Then there is always the Palomino Club, but our attentions would be elsewhere.

Peterb

Meeting at your table sounds great - one location
everyone should be able to find.

Matt

I'll give you a location to meet me at the
Shot Show once I know my timetable.

I am also going to get a mobile phone that works
in the US so that should help.

Could you send me an email? mattgraham@huntaust.com.au so I can ask a couple of questions.

RGP - I will make another post in a few weeks with all of my booth numbers for the various shows we are going to, including Dallas, so we can catch-up.

Cheers all

The Palomino club is a strip club at the far East end of the strip. Very funny MC if he is still there (and who would retire from THAT job).

I just want the group to know my wife and I just booked our reservations for the Vegas show.

Thursday Feb 9, 2006 arrive Las Vegas 10:00 a.m.
Monday Feb 13, 2006 depart Las Vegas 12:40 p.m.

We are staying at the Tropicana. We have stayed there quite a few times and always have found their accommodations to be well done.

I hope to meet some of the members on this trip. Hopefully all will keep others up to date on their travel plans.

Best regards,
Curl

CptCurl,

Good to hear and look forward to meeting you.
I am just in the process of booking my flights and accomodation.

OK Guys, we need to start looking at a dinner booking etc etc
for one of the nights.

US Based Co-ordinator

This is an open invitiation to suggestions re dinner and for someone who
is US based who knows LV well to do the bookings when a final decision
has been made.

We also need to confirm how many will be able to get there.

There is a really great steak house at the Stardust. The name is William B's.

Also, the Top of the World restaurant on top of the Stratosphere is a great place. More expensive than William B's, but a fabulous view.

Hi guys

I am in for a dinner with anyone who is keen. Just name the place, date and time. I know nothing about LV except they have lots of casinos (no interest to me) and you can apparently get a good seafood buffet (great interest).

Incidently if anyone is travelling alone I would be keen to split a room with someone who wouldnt mind sharing with a crusty buffalo guide. Not that crusty really I guess...

Matt,

"sharing with a crusty buffalo guide. Not that crusty really I guess..."
Bullshit - from what XXXXXXX tells me crusty is the the perfect word !!!

Matt - call me on the mobile - I will split a room with you.
Probably will stay at Circus Circus or Stardust - they are not the best
but close to Convention centre is more important to me than being
in the "thick of the action".

Just got off the phone with Roscoe (see post above re possible dinner places.

I am all for a Steak place (- I have been to William B's and enjoyed it)
and would like to go to Straosphere. I also agree that the Seafood Buffets ae great.

The best overall Las Vegas buffet is at the Bellagio casino. The best seafood buffet in Las Vegas is at the Rio.

I would avoid the Circus Circus as it is old and disgusting. Better to stay in the Paris Casino, which is reasonable but quite nice. The Luxor is also reasonable but not as nice as the Paris. Treasure Island costs a bit more and is fine. The Venetian and Bellagio are nicer but are not worth the price. Caeser's Palace is pretty good and not too outrageous in price (usually). For a bargain, check room availability at Sam's Town.

[oops typo corrected]

Thursday 9th
Friday 10th
Saturday 11th

The Shot Show starts on Thursday 9th but
the Antique Arms Show starts on the Friday 10th.

Anyone arriving on the 7th or 8th - PM me as I will be in town
for the evening of the 7th.

500Nitro,

I think Friday the 10th is a good choice.

By Friday everybody should be in town for both events - Antique Arms and SHOT. Everybody will have spent a day at their respective shows and should have a lot to tell about.

Somehow we need a head count for the dinner. We need to make our reservation well ahead. Any suggestions for a signup deadline?

Would love to go! Here are my reasons why I'm not asking the wife:

1. Going to DSC for the weekend at the end of January.

2. A very needy 15 month old who seems to be getting a new tooth every two weeks. Cranky? Is that what that is?

3. Work: right now our contract is in jeopardy because upper management is being squeezed by the senior leaders to cut costs. We need to prove our worth, which means working too many hours in a week ;-(

Maybe next year.

We have two more takers for the dinner Friday night: Bob Mason and his wife, Sharon. They are great gun people from Terra Haute, Indiana.

I figure I need to call William B's within a week or two to make the arrangements. Any body sitting on the fence needs to commit ASAP.

I look forward to seeing everybody there.

To all:

Here is an update on our Las Vegas dinner plans:

I just made contact with William B's to negotiate the reservations. Our head count stands at nine, with Butch Searcy making a possible tenth person, per Peterb.

I made reservations for ten people at William B's (at the Stardust, 3000 Las Vegas Boulevard South) for Friday, February 10, 2006 at 7:30 p.m.

Note we had previously discussed 7:00 p.m. After giving thought to timing, and considering we will be going a couple miles up the strip, I thought 7:30 might be more realistic. If anybody disagrees, please send me an email.

Now here's the reservation policy for groups of eight or more:

Hold with credit card
17% gratuity added
one check
24 hr cancellation
$20 per person penalty for non-compliance with cancellation policy.

Friday Feb 10, 7:30 p.m.

If anybody has problems with these terms, please email me.

The reservation will remain flexible to a point. That is, we can add or subtract people - add so long as additional space is available, and subtract on at least 24 hours notice.

I'm on the line for this, so if anybody decides not to go or if anybody doesn't like the reservation, please communicate.

I'm really looking forward to this gathering.

Best regards,
Curl

Mickey,

The ten are:

Curl and wife
Mickey +1 (is the +1 your wife, significant other, or a friend?)
500Nitro
Matt Graham
Peterb
Bob and Sharon Mason

Plus Butch Searcy as a possible per Peterb's post on another thread.

I just this minute (while composing this post) got a PM from AdamTaylor. He says he is in and his wife is a possible.

That makes ten for sure, and two possibles.

Let's get this organized!

Best regards,
Curl

Uh, Mick, I don't think I want to finish this thought.

Mick,

"Pretty Woman" was just a movie.

As my dad told me "if you wouldn't go down on it, don't stick your dick in it" (I cleaned this up a bit) . The other piece of advice that I posted earlier is "don't bring anything home you can't fit in a suitcase". But don't worry, whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

That is classic Vegas. Too funny.

I thought we were organising a dinner, not an orgy.
Then again, from what I have seen of LV, anything goes.

I somehow think that NitroX just won't us post photos !!!

What goes on in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.

Marrakai,

It's all about building the hype !!!

If you reckon 100 posts is good, you should see
the PM's.

Pity you won't be there - hopefully it will be like
the big dinners we have organised in Darwin.

Might have a couple more. Jerry Koch (& gorgeous wife) are possibles. I'll know soon. Jerry was a stand in for John Wayne and stills holds the M-1 record in the Marines (247) as well as being one of the best CAS shooters around. Jerry enjoyed his first African Safari earlier this year in Zimbabwe.

After reorganizing some appointments, now I will be able to attend the Antique Arms Show and SHOT show in Las Vegas. I look forward to meeting some of those members whose interesting and informative posts have appeared upon this forum. I note that several will be displaying at the Antique Arms Show. How does one recognize one of this group while visiting the show? It seems awkward to ask each vendor if the tableholder is a member of NitroExpress Forum. Possibly the members might place an inobtrusive card with their Usernames upon their tables?
Is space available at the dinner at the Stardust Hotel?
Regards,
Retex

Send me a PM with you contact information if you want in.

I look forward to meeting you.

I could try to make up some NitroExpress name tags really quick and send them over. Someone would need to have them where others could access them?

If you do not mind, post your table number when you get it. I will be in town for the Shot Show and hope that I can get to the Arms show.

Thanks,

I don't know if I'll know before the show. However, you get a free catalog with advertizing by some of the dealers. In this catalog, there is a list of all dealers and a chart of their locations. There will be a letter for area, a letter for row, and a number for the table. My table will have gunstocks in front of the table and two gun racks, one on each end. They are fancy with only 3 guns each. There will be my double rifle and Butch's Classic on the table along with some custom knives and some fine actions and barreled actions. The show is Fri-Sun but for $90 (for 4 days) you get the set up day added if you want to make a 4 day show of it.

This really is the best show in the world. The antique guns are unreal. Both Purdey and H&H from London are usually there. Generally, the best are there from everywhere in the world.
