Make Your Own Bismuth Shot
      #393446 - 16/09/25 09:27 PM

I've been promising this article for a while now, finally prompted to upload it by recent discussions on non-toxic shot for Australian waterfowl hunting in these forums.

Initially published in Guns & Game Magazine, now long gone so I assume Briel Jackson would have no objection to its reappearance here!

One major change since publishing: while the layer of diesel floating on the cooling water certainly works, it is difficult to manage and a bit messy in cleanup. Dave Lindner has discovered that a 25% solution of ethylene glycol works just as well, can be reused indefinitely, and is far easier to clean up!

There's an interesting back-story concerning bismuth patents and the Petersen Publishing Company, but that's all water under the bridge...
Another day, perhaps.

Meanwhile, I hope this is of some interest.
Enjoy!

That's awesome. I remember that article from some younger days. Well worth reading again.
