Top Quality Territory Boar

I trust fellow posters here would be interested in viewing the results of a successful hunt last weekend, south of the Roper. Unfortunately the buff were off-limits, however a number of feral hogs and donkeys bit the dust, along with two feral cats. The highlight of the trip, and the reason for my post, was a tusky old boar bagged by my hunting mate Marty on the second day. It rates as one of the best I've seen taken in the Territory, probably the best, and a personal milestone for Marty in terms of trophy quality. Check out these choppers!

The old campaigner had a head like something out of the Van Helsing props department!

The tusks have been boiled-out and by now Marty should have the measurements to add, hopefully they were long in the jaw for a high Douglas score.

I suspect we'll walk many a mile of river-bank before topping that set of trophy tusks. Won't stop us from trying, though...

Congratulations, mate!

Nice pig. I hop I can get a shot at something like that in December.

Mate.

Measured the bastard pissed and without a tape measure. Went 29 3/8 (or something). I'll remeasure sober and with a tape measure and see what I get.

I would have thought it would have cracked 30, and even 32.

I'll keep measuring till it does.

Tony, thats a hell of a set of ivory.

Well done Marty,I've never seen a set as prominent in the jaws as them.

Which leads me to a question for you Tony.

Why did your mate John B have to come over the border to shoot pigs in West Aussie when you have pigs of that Quality in the Territory..

No trophy fee eh.(LOL)

That is one hell of a hog anywhere. I have seen maybe 1 like that on the hoof in California years ago. Our dogs could not stop him and as I recall there was quite a sewing party after they finished with him. Great boar!!!!!!!!

Marty:
You were robbed, mate! Can't believe that set of tusks didn't go 33 or better. Must have been short in the jaw, though the swelling well-back along the jaw-line suggested there would be plenty of length inside. Also that broken tip is a shame, reduces both the overall length and the grind measurements. Oh well, we'll just have to get a bigger one next weekend....

If I shoot a hog like that, I will also get pissed. Well done Marty.

That is a great pig with or without a score. That would be one to mount in the jaw rather than just as tusks.
