Hello all, Here is Purdey double rifle I managed to add to my collection recently. A non-rebounding Jones underlever hammer rifle, it is chambered in 450 3.25 BPE. The rifle was originally ordered for Count Eugene Kinsky of Austria and eventually made its way to Australia at some point. This is my first Purdey, and I am amazed at how fine the rose and scroll engraving is on the rifle.

Lovely rifle. Well done. Read the post on the .577 2 3/4's for lube suggestion. I used that lube in my 34" barreled .45 3 1/4 with 570gr. bullet and a full 122gr. 2F GOEX with great results, 10 shots at a time, great accuracy with no need for wiping.

That is an excellent addition to you "famiiy." The 450 3 1/4" is a very nice, all around cartridge. Your Purdey should make a great deer and hog rifle.
When you take your Purdey to the range or hunt with it, please post your results.

Thanks Daryl, some great advice regarding the lube. Both the Rodda and this Purdey came with a perforated brass plate for beeswax wad formation. Will definitely follow these tips for the powder / wad combination.

Thanks. I have heard that the round performs well on deer sized game. We have a healthy supply of Rusa in our area, and it would be great to have a crack at one with this rifle one day.

That's a very nice rifle and a great cartridge.
Unfortunately, in the USA, brass for the .450 3-1/4 has dried up. How is the availability in Oz?
Range report is requested!

Just imagine a gunmaker presented this as his masterpiece. Today its still a handmade work of art. No modern made gun will recieve this status in 130 years to come.

Best to email Bruce Bertram - hopefully he'll have some on the shelf, also making bullets as well! b.bertram1@bigpond.com

A rifle so fine I'd sleep with it.
Something to its vintage lines, the curved hammers, the curve of its underleaver, its gloss and fine grained wood to excite the eye.
I think it deserves a rusa stag
Excellent buy. A fine addition to any gun rack.

Do you more of its history?
It would be nice if our vintage guns could tell us their histories.

Not at the moment John but will at least write to Purdey and get hold of any information they have in their build / service records.
