Looking for gunsmith to build 1880 Fraser Action.
      #39132 - 14/10/05 09:50 AM

I am looking for a gunsmith who is willing to build me a Dan'l Fraser 1880 Falling-block action.

Anyone up to the task or know someone who is?

Thanks,
Joshua W. Rich

I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction if we knew where you were from, no point in recommending an Aussie gunsmith if you're from the States, it would be helpful if you could update your profile to give a location. Thanks.

Sorry about that. Profile updated.

I am from the U.S. and of course a local smith would be more convenient but I wouldn't be adverse to having someone overseas do the work.

I did hear of a guy named Tom Griffin that built some a few years ago but I have no contact info for him. Maybe someone out there knows how I can reach him?

Thanks

You might contact Martini & Hagn in Cranbrook, B.C. They are known for the Hagn singleshot action (which takes it lines from a Fraser), but do other work. Whether or not they would take on the 1880, I don't know.

Someone in Houston is making a high quality reproduction of the Fraser sidelever actions, priced at $2250 each.

I don't know his name or phone number but I think he posts on the Accurate Reloading forum under the screen name "HUNTINGCAT".

That is all the information I know about it.

Richard

ps, I forgot, it is called a "Griffin Fraser" action so huntingcat's name is probably Griffin as you just mentioned.

If you don't mind a different action, there is a gunmaker in Mass who builds a beautiful Wesson No 1 for calibers upto and including the 577 NE. The 2006 Gun Digest features Steve Earle and his actions. You could call him at 781-585-6504 if you like.

Best wushes and good hunting!
