Hunting isn't about the kill, it's about the adventure waiting around the corner, whether it's a rhino beeing harassed by noisy oxpeckers while grazing in the plain with a girafe busy doing the same thing in the background, elephants bumping into a pride of lions at a whaterhole in the heat of the day with the pride male knowing with its wisdom it is not worth it to even moove his head in that temperature, wisdom its sons don't have yet and showing interest in those bulls, which makes them reactive and defenssive. A scene of tention only witnessed by 2 meerkats waiting for the gladiators to engage. Or maybe a very rare sigthing, a leopard so full of his kill that it fell asleep on the branch, not hearing the hunters coming and beeing woke up by a ''go-away bird'' call, giving a look of surprise that we can easely imagine beeing followed by a jump from the branch it was sleeping a few seconds a go to vanish into the bush an never beeing seeing again.
As an in house engraver at Rigby, I'm trying my best to bring something to the table by giving life to the animals we all love and admire, that is why an engraving project like that takes at least 5 months to complete, but it is a real treat to be able to be free to express your artwork on such guns.
I added some work in progress photos to fully appreciate the magnitude of the carving and modeling work on the leopard side, always interesting to see how it is done😁 Hope it will satisfy your eyes for a moment😁.

The famous tusker Satao, immortalised on the floorplate/belly of a Rigby. In-house engraver Saija Koskialho, completed this spectacular engraving Such great natural ability and talent from this young lady. Under the mentorship of Rigby master engraver Geoffrey Lignon.

I love the “Go Away Bird” , Not sure I have ever seen that on a rifle, but it’s very appropriate.

The go away bird on the left? Very appropriate. "Go Away! Danger! Go Away!".
The scenes are very well thought out and tell stories. With the skill executed by a great artist.
I "spoke" with Geoffrey. Complemented him on his work. The leopards realism, glaring eyes and rippling muscles. Missed seeing the Go away bird. The elephants stand as if stopped from suddenly moving. Most spectacular IMO the three dimensional leaves.
The phalanx of elephants facing a pride of lions. Observed by meerkats. One can smell the elephants and lions. Taste the dust.
I can hear the growl of the leopard, its bright angry eyes, it's muscles rippling in tension. "Goaway Goaway" the bird calls. The breeze stirring the leaves, cool on ones sweat as you back away from the sudden unexpected danger.
The magnificent three dimensional leaves. If they were green they'd move with the breeze.
The zebra peeking over.
The Rhino and Nyala.
I will see Geoffrey in Portsmouth mid next month. But alas, not this rifle. No doubt other shooting works of art.
It would be a great dream of mine to own a work of scenic wildlife shooting art like this. I'd probably regularly stare at it for hours. And I'd shoot it. BUT would need to improve my gun cleaning habits to ensure it lasts generations.

I could work out where this was. But it's the rear of the forend. WOW!
Some aspects of this engraving is quite whimsical.

Geoffrey wrote that Marc convinced him to execute this, and it worked out well.
A tiger and a gaur. Both would be suitable on the floor plate of a .416 or .404.
Neither can be hunted today. But I'm an eternal optimist and can dream.
Is the work finished like this? A Spartan scene? Or is this a work in progress?
