George Gibbs 360 No. 2
      #388715 - 08/01/25 05:09 PM

I recently acquired this George Gibbs 360 No. 2 double rifle, and hoping to get some rounds loaded up and a bit of practice in the coming months. The Webley screw grip action is tight, and the bores are good. This particular rifle spent a lot of its time accounting for water buffalo here in Australia.

Beautiful piece of kit there CM76!
Hope to see the range report soon.
Sounds like this old bird has a few tales to tell as well.
Marvellous pick up - heirloom piece no less!
Happy new year all

Very nice example, most envious!
Marvellous engraving, close to 100% fine scroll, typical Gibbs.
As far as boxlocks go, the A&WC 'screw grip' is the best!

Bring it back to the NT some time for another buffalo or two.

It is a nicely figured piece of walnut without being over the top. There is just something nice about an aged piece of timber. It has been looked after over the years, and I will continue to do the same whilst I am its custodian.

I agree Chris. I am a big fan of the look of the older classic wood.

I have a similar rifle, same chambering - but lesser condition and a little plainer: fewer sight leaves, non-ejector, plainer wood - by Webley and Scott, c1906.

Mine behaves fairly well with 82gr 2217 under a 320gr Woodleigh RNSN. In hands before mine, it was a proven NT Buffalo rifle in a well-known character's hands.

I'd be curious for a closer look at the foresight on yours; is that a flip-up moon/night sight? Mine is just a bead on a blade.

Hi Cadet,
Yes, the foresight is a flip up moon sight. Your load for the 320gn Woodleigh (using 2217) is almost identical to the one provided to me by the previous owner of this rifle. The load I have is 83 grains of 2217 for a muzzle velocity of 2220 fps.

Your rifle sounds like a proper hunting piece, and along with its history, would be a fine one to own.

Chris
