TREACHER & CO. 500 BPE info
      #38791 - 06/10/05 07:53 AM

I have purchased this border engraved double hammer underlever with "Treacher & Co." on the lock and would like to find out more about it. It has Alex Henry barrels. On one of the barrels it is marked "Bombay" with a serial #10xx. It appears to be of high quality and is in fine condition. Any info and help would be greatly appreciated. And this forum has really helped me learn much about double rifles, it is great. Thanks, Sam.

Sam11;
Greetings. That is a nice looking rifle you have.
I had a Treacher 500 3" BPE back in the early 80's. After
checking about everywhere, I finally gave up. All I could
find out was that Treacher & Co. was an English owned
company trading in India. A hunting sword with the
Treacher name on it was sold at an auction about 10 years
ago so I figured that they dealt in sporting equipment
sort of like a smaller Rodda or Manton. My rifle was
also made by Adams and Tait and was pretty high quality
although not a "Best" by any stretch. Yours looks to also
be a good quality piece. Did you get this recently from
someone in So. Cal? I seem to remember one for sale
around here not long ago.
Good Luck
Raff

Raff: Yes this is the one, was this the same one you had? I had found out the same thing about Treacher & Co. who was a merchant in Bombay. There is still a merchant near there (I didn't check out the exact location) by that name. From what I found doing all kinds of searches was that it was a trade gun. Thanks, Sam.

Sam11;
Hi. I am not sure if it was the same rifle or not.
I looked last nite for some photos I had but like usual,
I don't remember where they are. All I remember is the
bore size and rebounding locks and locked up like a vault.
Good Luck
