What's the range?

Looks really really good. I'd be extactic about that performance with the first shots.

You can hunt with it immediately.

Nice and mild as well.

Really nice useful old BPE rifle.

Post up the video on a new thread on the NE group on FB as well. To add to the photos you already posted.

Will do John. Range is around 40 yards.

Excellent target, you must be very happy with that gun, it certainly is a beauty. Well done.

Matt.

By far the best first time shooting of any double rife I've shot. Very happy, and it shot both 330 and 360 grain almost the same spot

Mike,

Very nice shooting and video. Looks like NfB, is that correct. From what I remember, my 500 Ex shot slightely better with 350 gr bullets as opposed to 440 gr but both were reasonably good at 50 yds.

RB it is 4198. Don't care for black powder. I am debating on taking it tomorrow on my 10 day float hunt in Alaska. Only con for taking it is if we flip the raft and it goes to the bottom of the rifer.

Mike,

I understand your comments about black powder.

While most of my 500 BPE shooting has been with either black or triple 7 (Hodgdon 777), I also use 4198.

If I were to take my Tolley on an extended trip, I would either load with 777 or 4198.

I have gotten very good velocity and accuracy with Triple 7 which doesn't have the issues of black powder.

The groups look fine, but before hunting, I would shoot another set with the forend of the rifle resting directly on the palm of your hand and not over the tripod. Just to be sure thay are the same and in the same position with your normal shooting technique.
In any case, I never shoot a double resting directly over anything but my hand.

Best regards!

DITTO with all my hunting rifles. I k how you were holding it ahead of the rest, Casper, but it's not quite the same. I also shoot it at 50yds offhand, however that point of impact is the same for me as resting the back of my hand on the rest, gripping as if shooting offhand.
