Good stuff "Krispy".

That .458 moves you a bit, you need more Krispy Kreme's and more "gravitas" like some of us.

Lovely .458 MS. Very nice rifle. Enjoy. Thanks for posting.

60 grains of IMR 4198 and a 400 grain cast bullet. I passed on loading the 500 grain jacketed that I have.

That load should be giving mid 2100's to 2,200 fps. A decent load. My favourite load in the. 458 2" was 51gr. H4198 for 2,150fps. With a 400gr. Barnes Old Style Spitzer.
Good moose load.

If I was a milk jug I sure wouldn't come sneaking around your house.
Very nice rifle and shooting.

+1!!
Very nice load - I’d be a bit timid about a full house load in a light rifle as this.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…
For a hand loader, the .458WM can be just about the most versatile chambering for everything from bunnies to elephants.

One was in Australia's Northern Territory for a few years, belonging to Peter R__ who generously allowed us all a few shots whenever it came to the range. Not sure if it ever went buff hunting before Peter moved south.

It was one of the canoe-paddle versions, with a heavily dished-out cheek piece. Unsure whether they were all like that, or a previous owner with fat cheeks had customized the fit! Would have improved it as a paddle!

From what I can find online the estimate seems to be less than 100.

Looking at the various different forum responses to posts about the .458 MS, all of the photos I see and some of the info on the Mannlicher Schoenauer Collectors page says that the .458 MS were all made with swept back bolt handle and the Monte Carlo stock. Mine has a straight bolt handle and a normal, (thank god), stock. I wonder if it was a custom ordered rifle.

Says "Model MC". I see the above have straight handles but the stock is the Monte Carlo style.

During that time, Model MC should indicate the Monte Carlo Stock. Model MCA would have a slightly lower comb, those who desired the
traditional stock of previous models were advised to order Model 1952 GK:

Stoeger catalog, 1960

Model GK

Stoeger, 1957

Stoeger, 1962

Stoeger, 1962

Magnum

There was also 'model NO' which Kuduae (who knows much more than I) has suggested may have been European custom orders.

One hard, fast, rule regarding MS, however, particularly of that period, was that there were few, if any, hard, fast, rules (my, that was a lot of commas).

At least I now appreciate the dished-out cheek-piece on the one in the NT was original!
