BRNO ZKW 465 question....
      #384890 - 17/05/24 12:27 PM

Has anyone ever heard of one converted to .222Rem. Is there even enough room to do it? Ive never owned one but I think it would be a sweet mini mauser. Ideally with the magazine converted to a more traditional contour with or without detachment.

Thoughts?

The ZKK 601 is a short action Mauser which comes in 222. It also comes in 308 so is a little longer than needs be for a 222 but is till pretty short.

The ZKW 465 was the ancestor of Brno Fox models (ZKB 680) and later the CZ527. The CZ527 was made in several calibres including: 222 Rem, 223 Rem. 17 REM (US market) 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel etc.

From what I've read, the action length is the same but they had to change some internal dimensions including reducing the length of the rear bridge and stretching the mag well. In other words, if you have an original ZKW 465 keep it as it is. If you want a sweet mini mauser in .222Rem etc, buy a second hand CZ527. or a Fox / Fox 2.

I’ve always found it very frustrating all these nice Czech mini CRF actions only came with a removable magazine - it really holds them back. The 465 and 680/527 would be such a sweet rifle with a proper fixed mag ala 98. I know the zkk came in 223 but it’s a full size short action scaled for 308 with a 0.700” bolt - a scaled down one would be perfect. AFAIK the only one to do this was/is Kimber? Sako, Heym and other good quality manufacturers made a scaled down action which are nice but all push feed

The CZ 527's in .22Hornet are exceptionally accurate. I had a pair over the years and put roughly 14,000 rounds through them in testing and shooting field rats. They both ran .222 50gr. velocities with 40gr. bullets ie: 3,250fps to 3,340fps. The bores mic's. 224 at the throat and .223 at the muzzles, with 16" rot. They both easily shot .3" and better groups at 100 meters.
Amazing little rifles.
