.475 3 1/4 NE (straight)..who has one..?

This is one of the more rare NE rounds.. I have a Midland Gun Co. made for them by John Wilkes..

The .475 Straight is a 450NE necked up to take a .483 480 grain bullet..

I have heard about that too. There was often talk of three cartridges 475.

Some think this round was engineered by Cogswell & Harrison...but it is a bit unclear.. I have seen rifles chambered for it by C & H, R.B.Rodda and Lancaster (Denys Finch Hattonīs Lancaster DB rifle was originally in .475NE, later rebarreled..).

There is a lovely R.B.Rodda top lever hammer rifle for sale at Gunsinternational as we speak..

Wasn't that the round that Eley developed. That was known as the 475NE.

Eley developped the cartridge 475 N°2 Nitro Express and then there is the other cartridge 475 N°2 Nitro Express from Jeffery. Both cartridges were created bei necking up the cartridge 450 N°2 Nitro Express.

You are correct, both No.2 cartridges are 3 1/2 long but differ in bullet diameter. It seems difficult to find a designer for the 475 3 1/4 in this discussion.

Here is an interesting article on the differences:

I have a box lock Rodda in .475 NE, I make my ammo using straight walled 450NE Brass using a .483 dia. Bullet. I have used this cartridge quite a bit in Africa on everything including elephant and see very little difference in the .475 and the other popular Nitro rounds.
