I’m trying to find out the history of a Jeffery double, but the records seem to be in the states. In particular, I’m interested in seeing the original order and who ordered it. Any help much appreciated.

JCorry likes Land Cruiser. He said he only owns 4 vintage Land Cruisers. My type of guy.

Alas I own only one Landcruiser but now do own a second Jeffery.

As of this week, I hav a new Jeffery, a 16-bore side by side "game gun". Choked cylinder and "CHOKE" which might be improved modified per measurement, but hopefully improved cylinder.

I posted this on the original thread first. I'd be interested in day book info as well if the owners are going to be emailed.

Jcorry, a British Landcruiser collector? Landrover Anglophiles are rolling over in their graves! You need to share some photos and moments on a "Landcruiser" thread. Lots of Landcruiser users here in Australia. Americans fantasise about LandCruisers but alas ...

I’m a bit of a mongrel; holder of multiple passports and have no loyalty towards the miserable and depressing landrover. I suffered for years with a 90 series but saw the light when I lived in the dark continent.
I just imported a dual cab 79 which gets some very odd looks in Blighty.

A ha! That's exactly what I'd like as my next one. Some time in the fantasy future. I'd just done an NE search for Landcruiser images.

But this is my 80 series.

My fantasy is to accurately paint my 'cruiser with 1950s East African style zebra stripes. Perhaps commentating Captain Dirk Hahn's good ship "Zebra" important in bringing German settlers to South Australia who founded the local town "Hahndorf".

A 70 series dual cab utility certainly would look unusual in Britain or Ireland. A pheasant shoot. But still not out of place. A great vehicle choice.

Some information from Jeffery on John's fine rifle which engraving shows it was made for a Maharaja.

Jeffery's records show that your rifle was made by Leonard who made most of the rifles for Jeffery. It looks like it weighed 14.5 # which seems very reasonable for 600 NE.
I like the 500 yd sights on a 600 NE. I guess that could be used for long range elephant hunting???
Jeffery sold your rifle for 65 pounds which was fairly expensive.
Unfortunately the Jeffery workbook does not list who bought the rifle. That would have been in the records that were destroyed during WW2.
I believe that if your rifle doesn't show an Indian retailer, that your rifle was bought directly from Jeffery

John replied: hanks very much. I was speaking with an old dealer who is sure my rifle came from a Maharaja’s collection. The engraving on the oval confirmed this.

Thank you very much for your help. The records are very useful and it’s interesting to learn it cost £65. Jeffery was charging £60 for a best quality sidelock at the time.
The rifle is en route to me and will update with photos at the earliest.
It was by chance that the dealer (Paul Roberts) remembered the rifle in The Maharaja of Jodhpur’s collection in 1970s.
He told me Jodhpur shot a 100lber (Asian) elephant with it.
The rifle ended up being sold at Christie’s in the 70s for £15,000 to a man who brought it to northern Rhodesia and hunted elephants with it.
It’s in fine condition, with some case colours and perfect rifling.

Thanks all. Long live Nitroexpress.

John

John,

That is a great history. Glad you enjoyed the information that Jeffery had and that you are getting this rifle. I believe all of us are waiting to see pictures of your Jeffery rifle when you receive it.
