Very untypical German red stag. From an AR discussion.

One should say an improbable Stag. Almost an aberration. 3 crowns ?
A rarity, and what a trophy. Is it a Stag from Luneburg Heide?

Yes it is. I pinched it from a discussion on the European AR forum. Because it is such an usual head. I wanted to see what comments members here had.
I think I might invite the gentlemen who posted the photo to share some comments if he is willing (and let him know I 'pinched' his photo as well).
Looking at this head, wouldn't it be amazing if the genetics from a head such as this, could be isolated through selective breeding to produce a sub-species like this. Especially if a matching antler could be duplicated. Of course excellent feed would be required to grow such a head. Selective breeding of that nature would only be possible in a 'captive' herd.
It reminds me of the ??? deer of India (??? trying to remember their name).

What if you could selectively breed the stag so it grew that on both sides - now that would be impressive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You should see some of the heads coming off farms in New Zealand.
A US mate of mine shot a 26 Pointer and that was considered "small". I told him it looked more like a hat rack than a Red Deer.
The Deer Farm next to where I go with a NZ friend has BIG, 20 - 30 point stags and clients fly in from the US (and I'm sure other countries), shoot the deer over the weekend and fly home - not bad way of earning $10,000. My friend watched one day as they had been keeping track of this particular deer as the client was coming so didn't want to lose it.
