Here's my recently acquired 9.3x62 Husqvarna model 246. I was looking for a few used brass cases and some kind forum members helped me out. I have several double rifles in 9.3 caliber, but don't have a bolt action. I don't have it in hand yet, but look forward to shooting this rare beauty.

Yes, FN actions.

Couple things:

On the 146 & 246 guns (old Huskys generally) check for bedding. Some of these bottom out the guard screws and set back in the stock. Not uncommon to see cracks at the tang. Yours looks good but the lack of a crack doesn't mean it won't. Also, hidden from view from the top, pull the action out and look for cracks in the recoil seat and web between magazine and trigger. If the bedding bottoms on the stock ferrules you can shorten them of get rid of them as I've done and I believe Daryl has also. You have to look for bottoming of the action w/ bottom metal, too (I had that issue also)b Epoxy bedded is an option.

Also, you may find groove diameter to be on the high side. I had a couple 146's and the groove depth was .369 & from memory I think Daryl's 46 was .370. Mine shot very well, but in drawing lead core bullets from .375 down I just mated them to the groove diameter or .001" under and didn't go all the way down to .366. Prvi 285 9.3/.366" shot just fine anyhow.

Congrats, they are nice rifles and yours looks set up well w/ the aperture sight.

You have a marvellous piece there mate!
They have a Stirling reputation as being very tough actions & well built overall.
Having a peep will help with your own loads for sure, whether you want a light load or full house hunting loads - it'll cater for all tastes.
Great timber on this one as well as its condition - considering this old girl's over 80+ years!
We're all jealous!!!

Good looking rifle.
The Lyman is worth as much as the rest of the rifle so that’s an excellent addition.

I wonder what that big black filler is in the belly. On the left it looks like it runs way up in the forearm.

Just checked the seller’s site and it looks like tape!

Anyway, some of these rifles sold as 246’s are rechambered 9.3X57 M46s so checking all of the boxes is important.

From what I’ve read, the 246’s have nickel steel barrels and are roll stamped "Nickelstad Antioxid" or maybe “Nickelstal Antioxid” and are marked Kal. 9.3X62 whereas the M46s are only marked Kal. 9.3mm.
Also, I’d like to see a confirmed genuine 246 as I’ve read that the serial numbers end in “‘N’ (denoting the nickel steel barrel) but many purported 246s have the ‘N’ at the start of the number which is obviously easier to add than at the end.

Not saying that this example is really a M46, just pointing out just how difficult it can be to really know with confidence.

Looks like a piece of tape to me. Rod is correct on my groove to groove being .370" however that was on a model 96 in 9.3x57.
Seems to me, I read somewhere the 9.3x62's on 98's were more true to groove diameter of .366".
He is also correct on the guard screws, especially the rear screw with the steel tube. That tube will likely prevent the proper tightening of the action screw and thus can set back and crack the tang of the stock.

Technically the 94/96 actioned commercial x57 was a Model 46. The FN 98 actioned x57 was the 146 and the same rifle in x62 was the 246.

You may be right about the groove specs on x62. A slug will tell the tale.

Yes, It looks like a piece of tape ... not sure why its there. Perhaps it was applied to protect the wood when shooting on a rest. (I hope) I'll know within seconds of seeing it in hand.

UPDATE ... I just messaged Morris, and he said he didn't know why the tape was there. He said he removed the tape before shipping, and no trace remained. .. (see updated 4th picture from the bottom)

Got the rifle in hand and working up a load. The rifle is in spectacular condition, even though its 80 years old. Even better than the pictures.

If I remember correctly, those things are like 6.9 or 7 lbs & the Swedes usually shipped them with one of these.

I just weighed the rifle .. Its 7 pounds 13 ounces empty, and 8 pounds 2 ounces loaded.
LOP is 14-1/4"

That will do.

The long LOP helps a lot w/ recoil. I prefer 14+.

Once health and safety get further involved in the shooting sport we will all have to wear the new SMART mouth guard that World Rugby have recently introduced. Sideline medical staff monitor players via bluetooth and where their smart mouth guards containing sensors indicates heavy impacts to the head the players are pulled from the field for an HIA (head injury assessment). NZ rugby players are among the first to use these (compulsory) new guards not without some contention.

Shooting ranges may make it compulsory to wear such a mouth guard when shooting big boomers and shooters will be sent from the range for a medical assessment if their mouth guard indicates they are being knock around too hard.
