Christer,

For $350 000 US you could get yourself setup for a 2500 Hectare farm with at leaste 10 species of game fully fenced with a proper lodge on it and you can hunt all year.

Safarihunt --there aint no fences in the ads mate and we are talking serious acreage here,1400 square miles is 35 miles by 40 miles in size or 1400 x 640 (640acres in a sq mile) = 896000 acres --serious room to hunt indeed and to me the wilder the better the place to hunt. And of course there is a fantastic range of animals in that country too.

Frederik

If I had that money I could consider having both places.

I wonder what the definition of "Territory" is? Whether it is a limited lease or hunting rights, for a limited period of years only. It would be interesting to know if the purchase or long term lease is of the land or hunting rights or for short period.

See the sale of the ranch at the bottom which is of land of 160 acres for a similar price to that of many square miles.

Safari-Hunt is right. A hunting ranch in South Africa is achievable and from the numbers I have heard of, can pay for itself in not too many years as well.

Now which rich relative can leave me lots of moolah in their will?

PS My guess those prices are Canadian dollars which is closer to the Australian dollar than the US (US rate to A$1:US$0.57 - Can$0.88). Buy two!

A guiding territory in BC is just that, a territory. You have exclusive rights to guide hunters and fishermen in your Area. All non-residents of BC must have a guide for hunting other than birds. So you can sell and outfit these people plus any residents that want a guided hunt.

All residents can hunt almost anywhere if unguided. So the more remote you are the less competion from residents. Usually they don't penitrate very far from the road in any case as horses are almost the only way to go. If you are on a navigatable stream or river you may see some in boats.

The ownership of the land, timber rights, mining rights etc remain with the Crown or another lease holders. You hold the lease at the pleasure of the government and you have certain reponsibilites for the stewardship. Setting quotas and wise game management are crucial. If you do not behave than you can have your lease revoked and you are out your investment, other than real property.

It is tough to make a dollar in the outfitting business unless you have something else going for you. Heli Skiing, Summer trips, Fishing etc. If this area can only take 40 hunters a year at an avg of $4,000 each. A net of maybe $2,000/ea plus taxes, maintanance, etc you might clear $50,000/yr. Not much for reinvestment and payments.

Mickey granted $50 grand --not much for all the hard yards and putting up with clients but to me a hell of a lot better than working for the man-far healthier too with alol that clean air.I seem to remember this ad also having something about the lease is basically yours forever until resold

Gryphon

You are right about it be a great life if you want to live out and be free (almost anyway). No lease can be guaranteed for life. You 'CAN' lose it if you don't take care of it. A lot of Guide Areas have been taken by the govt. because the lease holder didn't take care of it. The most serious is overshooting and violations of the wildlife laws. If you lose your Guide License you cannot hold the territory any longer. If you cannot sell it or make arrangements for another person to take it over you are out of luck.

You also must be a Canadian citizen to hold a Guide license. A lot of non-Canadians own territories or large parts of them. They must have a Canadian hold the Guide licese though. If he leaves, or dies or you fire him you can be out of luck also.

The best way is to have a partner who has a big enough stake in the business to be a part of the operation and to love what he is doing.

You can get Landed Immigrant Status in Canada for an investment of, I believe, $500,000 Can. This allows you resident status and allows you to become a Canadian citizen if you want. A relative who is a Canadian 'can' also get you in.

Gryphon,

Yes, that is a lot of country but in RSA you buy the property and the game and it's yours to do what ever you want with. It is still a big strech of land 25 km square. Not your everyday back garden
