The MC .458 MS that I bought last year in South Africa has finally arrived at my importer's in Texas. Mine has a red recoil pad that has collapsed a bit. I've seen online photos of .458 MS's both with and without the same pad. Did they come from the factory with these? Photo is of my rifle.

Very nice Casper, I bid unsuccessfully on one in an auction in Australia, it had a crack in the stock behind the action so I was a bit hesitant. I wonder if anybody on this forum won it? Cheers Alby.

I'll bet she has some stories to tell.
Straight (GK) stock and not cut / drilled / soldered for scope. Very nice, indeed!
Don't know if pad would be original, they were very popular alterations at the time that MS was new.

I've never seen a pad on one in any original advertisement.

Wish ammo costs were that still Rothhammer! I'll have that with a recoil pad Casper, imaging firing full 458Winny loads & no pad.....OUCH! Not wrong about a unicorn Lancaster - wouldn't have been too many of these old girls made? Great pick up Casper - now to see what she can do!

I'm not sure I'll be shooting it much. All the .458s I've fired weighed more than the MS and kicked the snot out of me. And I shoot my 577 and 500s with no problem. Mainly just wanted it to add it to the collection. All I have left to complete the collection is a 1924 Sequoia.

with its cylindrical case the 458 Win mag is ideal for downloading a little bit and will be still enough or better than before for any grizzly or black bear

My .458 2" and my .458 Alaskan ended up being loaded for 400gr. at 2,150fps. This was a normal, but not maximum load for the 2" and a down-load for the .458 Alaskan which would make almost 2,500fps with the same 400gr. bullet, but with 62gr.? RE#7, did 2,150fps with that 400gr. Barns SP. .458 Alaskan was a .450 Alaskan with the rim turned down to fit a magnum bolt face(rebated), of my M70 of 1980.
