Hi, everyone! Just acquired this early 1902 dated Mauser in 8x57 with .318 bore. I still cannot imagine how this 121 year old gun remained in such incredible condition: original bluing at 99% plus and original wood at 97-98%. Fire blue still present on some of the screws. Interesting that the caliber is not marked externally. The wood is amazing for a standard rifle. The barrel is octagonal to round. Would this be a Type B model? Is the reason why these early dated rifles are rarely seen because most sold as actions to British trade? Enjoy! Https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/znmk6i26n...2z&dl=0]web page[/url]

Wow you certainly have a great rifle there veloce! Hopefully Kuadue or Lancaster will chime in & give you a bit more info. Hope she gets some venison or pork in the freezer soon enough!

Looks to me like a very early Type B with nice wood in exceptionally good condition.
Very nice find!

Very nice early Mauser there Veloce!
The TypeM style bolt handle is unusual on a 'B' but maybe Mauser allowed buyers to specify back then, not sure. Regardless, it was definitely done by Mauser and not later so surely original to the rifle.
