The Mauser serial number 4142 dates the barreled action to 1902, as does Rigby’s number 2003. A quite early large ring intermediate action. The peepsight does not look like a typical Rigby one and the rubber - buttplate is an add on. A very nice early .275 Rigby No.1 rifle.

Thanks John for posting the photos, that is a skill that I think I will never master

Kuduae .thanks for the details of the rifle and its manufacture dates

The stock is original with the Rigby serial number stamped in the barrel channel
the rubber pad and the spacer make the length of pull a tadd over 15 inches but it's something I can live with
The folding leaf sights as well as the peep sight are marked 75 and 150 yards which is not the usual sight markings that we would normally see
The peep sight is not the usual one that one encounter on a Rigby . A friend of mine has a similar sight on a H & H 240 Apex
I took a 350 black bear in British Columbia Canada in May this year .One shot off hand no sling, rock or tree to lean on at 74 paces smashed the shoulder and destroyed the heart so the peep sight works well. The bullet was a 154 grain Hornady
I'm still waiting on Rigby for the details of who the rifle was made for and its completion / delivery date

That 154gr. Hornady is an amazing bullet in the old 7MM, by every write up I've seen on it over the years.

Hi SBS,

I have never seen a Rigby like yours, the TRUE ones, I don´t like. The perfect 7x57 Mauser!!
By the way, I am using the 154 Hornady Spire point since before the Interlock...One of the best bullets for the 7mm Mauser.

I have just received details of my rifle from the Rigby ledgers
Built for Captain E Berry
Mauser sporting Best { the word Best is written in the ledger }
14.25" stock
25 " Barrel
Completion / delivery Sept 2 1902

I have searched the the Imperial War Museum records and have found 3 Captain E Berry

1 73 infantry Brigade
2 The Staffordshire regiment
3 Royal army Vet corps
which one I don't know

Cool. 1902 is so long ago and Boer War years and pre WW1.
