Mauser MS420

Another Mauser .22 with a stratospheric presale estimate, from the same auction house that listed a couple of these guns previously. This is described as a 95% gun and looks to be a very nice example. Could it be that high condition Mauser .22s are worth 8-10 times ordinary examples? I’ve seen this phenomenon before and it is usually with mass produced .22s that were so ubiquitous and abused that very few fine examples exist. An early Winchester 1890 with intact case colors v a grey and worn example, for instance.

MS420 advertised on an Aussie site here for 590AUD.
That's way under 400 USD!
Listed as "Excellent".

Bargain!

AU$490 now. I’ve been seriously considering it - not that I really have $490 but that is by far and away the cheapest nice 22 Mauser I’ve seen for sale here, and possibly the first repeater I’ve seen. What bugs me is the stock - I don’t like the shape, is it original? I thought they had much more graceful lines normally?

Looks like a dandy 'plinker'.

I'd rather have a CZ or BRNO for $450.00.

why’s that? I’d pick a Mauser any day, apart from that one with the awkward stock. Not that there’s anything wrong with a BRNO - better than everything else IMO, and I do like their stocks

They are good.

My rifles stock is not chunky.
