Rigby cocking peep sight
      #378820 - 22/08/23 10:20 PM

Does anyone know when Rigby first started fitting cocking piece peep sights to mausers
I have checked the patents in the British Gunmakers 3 volumes and can't see any reference to Rigby but
L Taylor ( Westley Richards ) is mentioned with several patents to his name regarding apature sights

Well here's a Rigby cocking-piece aperture sight fitted to a Rigby Mauser sporter delivered in 1898.

Check it out HERE.

Obviously they were already in production by 1898:
you can't get any earlier than that on a '98 Mauser sporter!

Yes! its a very nice rifle
I have a 1902 built rifle in similar condition but with a different peep sight than the one shown and not the style of Rigby peep sight that we usually see on later rifles.
Mine has a spring loaded button on the right and is graduated at 75 yards and 150yards the same as the two folding leafs on the barrel
A friend of mine has a H & H 240 Apex with the same sight
