Since I've only been to Africa twice so far and I love my big bores, I
have used them a lot on deer and pigs. I killed a doe with my .375 just last Saturday.

I've used my 9.3x74R on pigs, African plains game such as warthog, maybe some others. Horses, donkeys, scrub bulls. Dingos. I forgot what else. Water buffalo.

I've used my .375 on dingos, pigs, feral cats, foxes, fallow deer, African plains game such as zebra, warthog, bushbuck, impala, and others. Donkeys, scrub bull and Cape Buffalo.

I've used my .450 DR on pigs, warthog, scrub bulls, banteng, elephant.

I'd like to use the .450 a lot more. And the .375 more. Especially try some lighter bullets, the 235 gr etc. Only ever use 300 grs on game. Used other weights in targets.

The .404 needs to be used with some light bullets. I have 257 gr bullets for it.

Same as the 10-bore. Needs to be used on bovines. But also medium game.

I'd like to use some of the big bores on feral pig culls like in the past. Does anyone still go on feral pig shoots shooting several hundred.

The other fun practice cull option I wish I could crack on is culling roos on permit. Good running/hopping practice. No need to worry about meat damage. As long as animal lib nutter authorities aren't insisting on head shots only.

Rabbits would be great precision practice.

Good going. I've shot grouse with my "long throated" .458 2". 510 WW at 2,060fps, and a red squirrel with my .69 - 482gr. RB.
Shot lots of grouse with the .69 and round ball loads while moose hunting. Always seem to have 165gr. of 2F loaded when I get a good shot at a grouse's head. Instant kills!

I have not used the 416 Rigby on a wide range of game just rat (if they class as game???) cats, pigs, Baboons, Wildebeest, Cape Buff and Ele. The time I used it on a rat I was wondering if I was seriously under gunned.

In my circle of hunting friends, feral cats are "double points" so they get belted by whatever you're carrying at the time.
That has included .577 and .400 Nitro in the past!

I HAVE AN ADMISSION. IT TOOK 2 shots left and right from my 600 h&h in the NT. First shot complete miss at 10 metres it seemed stunned by the sand blown beneath it. Second shot through the chest. The projectile exited. I reckon it weighed 4 kilograms. It was a very ugly TOM.

Due to the economy I have had to postpone my Cape buffalo hunt a Year.

So what do I do in the mean time with my Ruger No. 1 in 450/400 3" NE. I shot a doe whitetail with Hornady 400 grs. DGX bullets. I like how that bullet performed on deer, but that shot told me I think I need a better bullet for cape buffalo.

Oklahoma Whitetail Does are pretty bad ass. The shot knocked her to her knees and she got up and ran off.

Okay she only ran about 40 yards, shot through he heart.

DD, sad to read. But good luck a year later. Have fun on deer and hogs in the meantime.

I think I'd have to have a fair amount of luck to hit a rabbit or cat with my .450 dr.

Yeah - bolt guns are definitely different from doubles. I shot 34 grouse one fall with the .458, some simply changing the full power load (when time) for one loaded with 15gr. AL8, case full of kapok and a 230gr. Speer swaged 230gr. They shot to the post in the scope reticle at 25 yards, so easy to shoot their heads off.
Velocity was 1,350fps & would shoot into 3" at 100 meters.

It's okay - they were subsonic loads:

I took 5 years, but I finally scored a Wisconsin Whitetail with my 700 Nitro Express.
It was hard to get to within 75 yards and shoot standing.
I hand-loaded a reduced load to 1,550 fps with a 1000g Woodleigh. (2,000 fps is a full-load)
The recovered bullet weighed 975g and expanded to nearly 2 inches.

The posts are interesting but I don't understand all the sense of the topic because shooting small game with big bore rifles is not unusual. In Africa for example, or in other countries of the world, where in the context of big game hunting there is often only one big bore rifle available and this is then used for everything, among other things to shoot small game with it. In addition, no reduced loads are used for this, but the normal loads.

Shooting rabbits with a medium or big bore is good practice. Haven't done it for years. Must revisit it.

You must have tough White tails over your way mate - you would think those .700"projectiles would just sail through virtually unmolested!

I shot him lengthwise - chest to butt - bullet was under the hide in his hind end.

For several years I used my .416 Rigby with a “plains game” load, 350 gr Speer or North Fork / 100 gr VV N160, almost exclusively, both in Germany and Namibia. I don’t remember the number of animals at the moment, just the species: Hare, fox, jackal, roe deer, warthog, boar, fallow deer, impala, wildebeest, red deer, oryx, greater kudu.

shooting a fox with the 9,3x64 with 300 grains softpoint once I am still wonder such small animals don't blow up by the speed and energy of the such a high power rifle. yes, I know the bullet don't open in this small body.

I think perhaps the velocity isn't quite high enough, lancaster, for explosive events with low or non-expanding bullets.
If the speed was higher, in approximately 3,300fps or higher, for example, more explosive results would occur.

I once shot a bustard with the cartridge 460 WBY-Magnum and a 500gr SP bullet, full load.

It was just a big hole at the base of the neck, but otherwise nothing of the meat was destroyed.
