Poachers!
      #378356 - 05/08/23 12:08 AM

These low Lifes traveled from out of state to poach turkeys. I just don't understand what the attraction is in taking illegal game!!! They could have purchased a lot of tags for what it's going to cost them, the DNR in Illinois don't take plea bargains!

Longknife,

I agree. Unfortunately the penalties for poaching are not enough. I would rather see them do some hard labor but unfortunately, prisoners aren't required to do hard labor anymore.

I don't understand what is the sport of hunting turkeys at night with night vision equipment. The turkeys that I have seen at dark are just roosting in trees. Shooting sleeoing game really isn't a sport.

I believe a judge can still sentence Hard Labour in Louisiana...

...and in Maine and New Jersey it can be added to a sentence if inmates exhibit the opposite of "good behavior" while inside!

Even from an Aussie viewpoint, hard labour would be a good fit for poaching IMHO.

Looking at the charges and the comments of the law enforcement officers, this wasn't about sport hunting. It was an organised poaching operation for commercial purposes ie money. Hopefully it will be sentenced as such.

Yes, it appears that it was an organized poaching operation. I do know the Illinois DNR confiscates all poaching equipment, even vehicles and they will not get them back. I grew up in Alton and travel the area where this poaching took place. It's a Low land area near the river inside of the city limits. I see many turkeys and deer there. I hope they get huge fines AND jail time!
