Chapuis Progress 375 H&H.
      #378068 - 24/07/23 03:52 AM

My Chapuis Brousse 470NE got a little sister the other day. I traded my custom Winchester M70 in 9,3x64 Brenneke for a Chapuis S/S double in 375 H&H.. The new french girl in the family is a set up just like my Brousse, but is actually built on a Progress action. It has 26" barrels with one standing leaf, 3 flip-up leafs and bases for scope mounts. Double triggers, ejector and manually safety. It also has the extended lower tang and steel, trap gripcap. The only feature missing compared to my Brousse is the scalloped side reinforcements on the baskule. The stock is "lefthanded" with a checkpiece on the right side, but has hardly any cast on. The stock suits me nice, even as a right handed shooter. Weight 3,9kg.

Isn't she beautiful? ;-)

The 375 H&H together with her big sister. My Chapuis Brousse in 470 NE.

Yesterday I got around to try the 375. The first pair of shots at 100m.. Looking good! 300gr Hornady DGX, 69gr Norma 203B and Fed 215 primers. Had only 4 pieces of Hornady 375H&H cases laying around, but I had to try my new beauty.. Waiting for 300gr Nosler Partition bullets and Norma cases to arrive.

Edited: images, way too large.

Spent some time in the workshop today, and after a couple of of hours, I got a set of scope mounts fitted to the bases of the 375. Hopefully the reloading components are arriving soon.

Got started on finding the right load for the 375 today. I want to use the 300gr Nosler Partition as a allround bullet. Tested at 50m with some cartridges loaded with Vithavuori N550 and Federal 215 primers in new Norma cases.

72-75gr N550 in steps of 1gr.

The right barrel put the bullets pretty much in the same place with all loads.

The left barrel "walked" the bullets closer to the right barrel, as the the powder charges was increased.

Shot a pair of rounds of the 74gr and 75gr loads over the chronograph.
74gr gave 766ms and 770ms R/L and 75gr gave 776ms and 782ms.

Think I will load some more cartridges with 74gr and 75gr and do some more testing at 50m and 100m.

Do you shoot the barrels together ie R, L .... R, L, .... Etc?

Or R,R,R, R ...... L, L, L, L?

I shoot the barrels R/L in 6-8 seconds.. then let them cool down, R/L, cool.. R/L, and so on..

Yes, it was not easy to part with the 9.3x64, but here in Norway, one can only have 8 hunting guns, so something had to go.

Thanks. I wondered seeing the target.

I think next time I shoot a double rifle and work up regulation reloads, ill use multiple targets, one for each shot. Then overlay the holes into one target image.

Useful as well to test out if changing barrel order has any effect.

Oh BUGGER alright!
Getting a double, that's a more than fair reason to do so.....but it would have been hard doing so!
