Loaded two Draper brass percussion shot shells this week. Here's the video.

Very cool Casper!
The cases would be expensive to make/replace if you did so!
Great technology back then to reload & wonderful to see actual components & equipment being used - besides the firing of course!
Well done mate!

Thanks. I originally bought them for my cartridge collection but they are so cool I decided to fire em up.

I suspect the common muzzle loader primer is not gastight but split under pressure?

Casper, That is a great video; thanks for sharing. It seems like those cases would be fairly expensive to make but perhaswith CNC machinery, they could be doable (by=ut expensive).

I had not heard of a Draper cartridge. Is it an evolution from or improvement of the Daw and Lancaster cartridges?

From my research Daw stopped making his in 1862 due to losing a lawsuit with Eley. I've never seen or heard of the Lancaster cases.

That might depend on the length of the firing pin, I think. It is possible the top end would blow out, due to the size of the hole in the nipple. but might not, due to the construction of the threaded end piece. If that end piece fit fairly tightly against the sides of the cap, it might not fragment at all & be fairly gas-tight.
English cap lock rifles are noted for this sort of feature when they have the tapered hole in the nipple, with the tight, small diameter hole at the bottom of the nipple.
The shotgun does not produce as much pressure as-does a rifle, as well.
