A good friend bought TEN-X ammunition for his 45/120 and the necks split on six of ten shots fired.
At $7.50 per round, their quality better be better than that!

Interesting, but questions & quality as noted above need to be addressed.
Considering the groove depth of those Martinis is all over the charts makes me wonder what the lead alloy they used, happens to be.
A softer bullet will slug up, but not one of normal alloys made for the market by commercial companies - normally.

The ballistics of the posted round will about match what a 2.4" or 2.6" Straight Case Sharps round will do with GOEX powder. Of course, the 2 7/8" and longer Sharps cases will exceed this one with GOEX powder and add about another 100fps with T-7 over GOEX.
The longer cases should run about 1,550 to 1,650fps with the same bullet.

That is unacceptable. Sounds like very poor annealing. I hope your friend reported that.

Years ago I worked with them on the Martini Ammo.

They rejected black powder loads and insisted on .458 diameter bullets. (they are in California) The used a Hollow base bullet to compensate for under sized bullets.

I have shot their ammo in both Snider and Martini and have no complaints. (okay cost, but if it was two cents more than free we would still gripe.) I do not know who's brass they are using these days. All the last batch I used was Jamison.

I do not think their brass would be a Magtec case. All I have seen that they use is drawn solid head brass.

The commercial brass companies stopped using balloon head and semi balloon head rifle cases and went to solid head cases in the late 1890's with the advent of smokeless powder. These companies did still use semi balloon head pistol cases up into 1930's. It has been suggested this may coincides with the end of cartridges loaded with black powder.

The CBC Magtec brass is shotgun brass of semi balloon head. I have several hundred of these cases formed to 577/450 accumulated over the years and they have served me well. They are however restricted to black powder only.

I note this 577/450 brass for sale at the moment on our national auction site with a buy now price of NZ$80 for 10, made from 24 gauge brass but no indication in the auction notes that are copied below as to brand of brass.

"Auction is for 10 pieces of brand new 577-450 brass for the Martini Henry rifle, ready to be primed and loaded.
This brass has been formed from 24 gauge shotgun brass which is reflected on the headstamp.
Should only be used in rifles in good condition and safe chamber tolerances".

I have solid head brass from Kynoch, Jamison, and Bertram. All new made with the past 20 year and less. Jamison has new name and rumor has them making 577/450 for commercial sales only.

I am also aware of Horneber making 577/450.

Rumor was that Kynoch switched from having Bertram making their brass to Prvi Partizan making brass for the 577/450. Ten-X was associated with this rumor as having sourced brass from Prvi Partizan also. Rumor- information not supported by fact.

A few years ago Richard Pomerantz? of Ten-x passed info on 577/450 brass from Jamison. We sold over 5000 rounds of this brass to members of British Militaria Forum in aGroup buy. The problem was Jamison didn't disclose the fact this was seconds until after we bought it and passed it on in the group buy.

I react to "This brass has been formed from 24 gauge shotgun brass which is reflected on the headstamp."

believe it or not 24 ga brass with a 70 mm long case was also made in the soviet union after the war beside of 12, 16 and 20 ga with a 70 m long case. the base much thicker than magtech brass.
