Ludwig Borovnik single shot rifle
      #377177 - 06/06/23 06:29 AM

Haven't posted in a long while.
I recently acquired a Flaig's
Imported Ludwig Borovnik single shot rifle two barrel set.
One in 7x57 and the other in 30-40 krag made in 1960.
Just wanted to see if anyone had ran across a set in these calibers before. Thanks RJ

30-40 Krag is unusual as possible in europe, its a miracle he found a chamber reamer for this.
I am 100% sure this was a special order by an US american. maybe he send the chamber reamer from the states. could be also the 30-40 barrel was a later addition.

have both barrels the same proof marks?

Nice in 7x57.

A .30/40 Krag is so close to it. An unusual second barrel choice.

Is the rifle nice and light? Would make a nice mountain rifle.

Yes both barrels are marked the same and same serial numbers. It is also somewhat light.
I totally agree that it's a completely special order one off set ordered from Flaig's. I'm glad I own it but what a odd combination of calibers.....

RJ,
That is a beautiful kipplauf with a very strong action. The big question is "how does it shoot?

Interesting rifle, certainly made on special order for the US.
Deviations from Ferlach rifles made for Austria or Germany:
- the .30-40 Krag barrel, as already mentioned
- the other barrel is for 7x57 rimless, not for the rimmed cartridge
- a single trigger, not the usual double set trigger
- stocked according to "American taste"

Yes most definitely made for American market hence the stock
Style and Krag caliber. It will be a fine companion till I go under.
I haven't shot it yet 85Lc
But will soon, I drew a Colorado muledeer tag yhis year an plan
On dragging it along.

Very nice little mountain rifle - it must be very light indeed!
Would be interesting to see how she shoots.
Hope you get your Mule deer Texan!

Some more observations and questions:

the Kersten (or "Double Greener") lock is much more than needed for such moderate-pressure cartridges, normally a single Greener lug would be used.

The scope on the 7x57 barrel is quite new (Zeiss or Swarowski?), in traditional Suhl claw mounts. Do you have an idea where this was done?
The scope on the Krag barrel appears to be older, maybe 1960s period. What make, and what type of mounts where used?

Is there a flip-up rear sight in front of the action, just behind the rear scope base? I have never seen something like this before.

I'd like to see a picture of the other side of the stock, please, to see the cheek piece.

This is a great rifle with plenty interesting features - have fun and Waidmannsheil with it!

Not to everyone's taste but I just love Kersten actioned rifles albeit double or single.
