"Researchers have discovered that two commonly found birds in Papua New Guinea have toxic feathers, with deadly neurotoxins.

The brightly coloured regent whistler and rufous-naped bellbird were thought to be harmless songbirds until a recent discovery by a team from the University of Copenhagen.

Researcher Kasun Bodawatta says the birds have the same class of toxin found in the skin of poison dart frogs in South America.

Scientists believe that, like the New Guinean birds, these frogs obtain their toxic skin by feasting on related Melyrid beetle species."

By The Way: Not to cheapen Lancaster's original post here, I find it interesting that a bird species developed similar toxin to Amazonian frogs.
