I didn't realise the metal could be cut, "chipped" like that with a "chisel". I don't know the terms for metal working. Hand cut and stuff fits perfectly. Real artisan work.

And at the end, filed, rubbed, polished. So different.

I'm sure these guys are not paid enough. Compared to the hacks just screwing bits together to make some ugly plastic abomination.

Interesting watching them file and seemingly dragging the file back and forth. I was always taught to never drag it back as it rolls the teeth and dulls the file. Maybe it's a diamond file and would not matter. Beautiful work and craftsmanship.

I always thought when pulling the file back, it cleaned the teeth. I guess we had different teachers.
When draw-filing, yes, no dragging.

I was taught the file cuts on the push stroke and to raise it slightly on the return, not drag it, that would get you yelled at from the teacher

As well, the hacksaw was used full stroke. Less pressure on the return stroke, same with file, but we did drag it.

Doing my apprenticeship quite some time ago now we were certainly rapped over the knuckles if we were seen dragging a file over our work, one little dag, especially if you were getting close to dimensions would scratch the hell out of it & no amount of polishing with a good wet & dry would get it out!
Had the file card handy all the time to keep our files clean.
Same with the hacksaw!
You don't have to ask why
