Opinions on a Krieghoff .470 NE

I am looking at a used one with upgraded wood ( very nice ), do any of you have an opinion/experience in the field with the unusual cocking system....??

The asking price is US$ 7.000.-

What do these rifles weigh in .470...?

I haven't hunted with one but have held it, shouldered it
and had it taken apart in front of me by Krieghoff.

Great design mechanically but personally, I probably
would never use one.

Part of the reason is I disconnect the auto safety catches on my
DG DR's and generally don't use them So getting used to "another"
system is not for me.

This is MHO only.

Price sounds OK though for a used 470. It could be a cheap entry into
a large bore DG DR.

Considering the number of posts recently about getting into a 1st double
under US$10,000, if you don't want it their may be others here who do.

Good luck,

Whilst I haven't hunted with a Krieghoff myself ,I have shot both a 470 and a 500/416 and they appear to be great rifles. A lot of PH's use the plainer models and speak highly of them. Any rifle that can stand a field test in Africa is usually well worth it. Regards, Charls.

I own one now for about a year. I haven't had the ooportunity to hunt with it yet, but next month we have a boar hunt scheduled and I think I'll break it in. I've never owned any other double so the cocking system is easy for me. Mine came with 9.3x74R and 7x65R barrels and I'm having more fun with them and getting used to the rifle.
I had the breako recoil reducer installed by Krieghoff, It added about a pound but I believe the recoil is easier to handle.
I'd say go for it and use the money you save to get another set of barrels.

Pondoro
I have handled several Krieghoff doubles and shot a 500./416.
I have a 9,3 Chapuis and 2 British big bores.
Many people do not like the Combi cocking system of the Krieghoff. After using a similar system on my Blaser R 93 and K 95 I can state that the cocking system on the Krieghoff would not be the slightest problem for me. In fact the more I use the Blasers the more I like the fact that the rifle in uncocked until I cock it.
I would have NO PROBLEM HUNTING DG WITH A KRIEGHOFF 470.

I have hunted with a Krieghoff .470 since 1999 and have had no problems with the cocking system. I did shoot this gun at least 250 times before the first safari and it is very comfortable.

It has accounted for a half dozen buffalo, 2 elephant, and 2 desert leopards charging. Yes I do like it. I have since benched it for a Westley .500 droplock, however, it looks like the Krieghoff will get the nod for this years ele safari in the Selous due to technical difficulties.

Nevertheless, it is certainly not a step back and I am very comfortable. While it is a little light for caliber, and does not have the proportions and feel of an english gun, I do like the durability of the Krieghoff. You will not go wrong in buying it.
