.375 H&H magnum Extra finish
      #374189 - 17/02/23 10:29 AM

A special gun came in for restoration and I thought some of you might enjoy seeing. Single square bridge Oberndorf magnum action, letters as a extra finish gun from Holland. The story I heard was that it was owned by a wealthy family in the North East and Stored in an attic for years where rodents had urinated on it. I believe it, it was deeply pitted to say the least. I struck out what I could and the remainder was micro welded, then the engraving re-cut, rust blued finish.

After the metal was refinished

It's actually nice to see an H&H 375 that had never been scoped!
Superb!

Marvellous job of restoring a wonderful old rifle!
Love the filigree engraving, not too much to overdo things, very nice indeed.
Well done mate, I hope it doesn't end up in the attic again!

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

On a technocal side, is micro welding the same as laser welding and can they fill in all of the pits on a rifle.

I ask because I have seen some nice rifles that unfortunately have a few bad pits. Nothing structural but aesthetically bad. I was wondering if those pits could be filled and that part refinished?

That's exactly what it does, but is the same as laser??
Not familiar with laser welding.

Can someone explain laser welding? Never heard of using a laser to weld.

Daryl:
One of my wife's brothers owns a dental laboratory and a laser welder is part of his tool-box for making the metal supports for dentures and implants.
He has done a couple of tricky "gunsmithing" jobs for us including repair on a shotgun ejector that still functions perfectly.
There's a video on this website (that I haven't watched!) and some description that probably helps explain things.

WOW - that's pretty cool video - easy, too.

"Handheld laser welder speed is 4-10 times faster than the traditional TIG/MIG welding
Easy to operate, unskilled operator can also weld products beautifully
Can weld metal products of different materials and thicknesses
Low welding heat, no deformation of the workplace
Smooth and beautiful, which reduces the subsequent grinding process and saves time and cost by laser welder"
