I find the stock on my Azhur a Little short now? It used to be fine?

I'll have to give that shooting hold method a try.

You certainly should! According to Churchill, the length of the stock is not very critical. Within limits, a short stock may be compensated for by simply gripping the barrels a bit farther forward.

Something unexpected arrived in the post today.

A book on the Churchill method. I haven't looked at it yet.

Many thanks to Kuduae for the gift! What do I owe you for it? Something you would like? Please tell.

Many thanks. It will be interesting to read and try out itscrecommendations.

John, you owe me nothing at all. On the contrary, we all owe you thanks for running this forum.
Years ago you asked about a name for that narrow rib found on Churchill shotguns. And now you reported problems in handling your British style AYA. So I thought it fitting to send you a reprint of the tome by the old master, the “Other Mr. Churchill” himself, Robert Churchill’s “Game Shooting”. Maybe you can glean some hints to proper handling your side-by-side. If not, you can smile on the photos of Mr. Churchill in his “decent” shooting attire.
BTW, somewhere in this book, chapter 15?, Mr. Churchill calls shooting at rabbits and hares difficult. When I read that book about 60 years ago, I thought this to be unusual. Grown up with German shotguns, I was taught by my grandfather to shoot a hare “always in front of the feet” and never saw a problem. Only much later I found out: That old family heirloom (I am the 5th generation using it) 16g Meffert “Hubertus” gun was stocked for such shooting, while a British Game Gun is designed for shooting upwards at driven pheasants, partridge and grouse foremost.
Waidmannsheil!

Yes, they are stocked to shoot high.

Well my shotguns are stocked and designed to miss trap clays shooting flat. That's my excuse. Then three experienced clay shooters asked tontry out my Tikka/Valmet and all hit their clays everytime.

Thanks again A. Waidmannsdank.

I need more practice to recover lost skills.

I want again be the only person using a side by side.

Shooting rabbits and hares is my standard. Birds less than rabbits.

I shoot an AyA Coral. It was made in the early 1960’s, and I bought it in 1988. Its my go to gun for most of my shooting. My Pa bought a No3 new in mid 1960s. Still tight and shoots as it has always done. My daughter has a no3 20 bore and it too shoots very well.

Beautiful pink and grey gallahs are good practice. Never ate one?! The colonials did. My dogs and cats have. But good practice. Legally can be shot in SA, at least as part of crop protection. I haven't had a hay crop for two years. This year's it is a must.

So later in autumn a practice possibility.

Might try eating a few too?

Will post in the Aussie hunting forum.
