Pulled Cape Gun Trigger
      #373747 - 02/02/23 12:04 PM

I couldn't resist, had to have it, don't need it, but...it called to me like the Sirens tempting Ulysses.

It's a two barrel BSW, made pre-war by Simson in 16/8X57JR and 16X16. The BF wears a newer 2.5-8 Geco in claws. The chambers are 65mm, but I have no problems with shooting 2 3/4" mild ammo in these guns. I also have a moderate supply of 65mm ammo. I have two other 8X57JR guns and plenty of ammo and components to roll my own. One is a Sauer 12/8X57JR and 12/12 set:

The price was less than I would expect to pay just for the cape gun sans scope, so it's finding a home as a set that will get hunted.

Now that is nice. My Husky 16 bore x 13 bore straight rifled had 65mm chambers. In the shot barrel, I used factory Federal 2 3/4" as when open, these measured 2 5/8", only 1/10" longer than the chambers.

I found the 1937 BSW catalog that lists this combo as an Astora 35BD. It's fortunate that the set didn't get broken up like so many post war guns suffered. A scroll near the bottom shows 1937 prices in RM.

Here's the link, and the gun is listed on page 16. I wish my German were better. For this simple field grade set to have survived the war and all the years after in its condition is a minor miracle.

This link explains the BSW Simson story and their struggle as a Jewish owned company in Nazi Germany.
