Done everything but make the whistle. A knife with a smooth handle front to back is easier thrown. One with a little finger hook at the rear of the haft, makes a smooth release difficult.

I wouldn't want to split wood with a knife except in an emergency.

Skinning, gutting and butchering an animal an obvious skill.

Sharpening a knife on a whetstone an often missed skill. But an obvious one.

Whetstone or oil stone is a necessary tool for sharpening.
A steel, whether made of steel or ceramic, is for polishing or touching up while working on an animal.

For moose, elk, deer and bear, I really like at least a 6" blade. The longer blade of decent width makes much shorter work than a smaller blade.
