From OUTDOOR LIFE magazine in April 1953. He hunted with the legendary PH Frank Bowman, whom Robert Ruark called "The Dean of Professional Hunters"

Interesting painting of the shooter and PH at the outset of the article. Slings on a dangerous game double rifle (or for that matter a bolt dangerous game rifle) are a absolute no. ----A good way to get yourself killed.

I think they are used a lot in practice, less so on the internet.

The large hook slings were used on double rifles. Adequate to carry on the shoulder. Quick and easy to remove when going into thick stuff. Before the modern quick release swivels.
