Hi all, here's a 7x57 I built a while ago.
Started with a 1908 Brazilian action, Vardy walnut blank and a TSE barrel. 24 LPI checkering and weighs about 7 1/2 pounds.
Shoots 140 gn Woodleighs at 2750fps.
I did change out the scope for a Z3 3x9x36 Swaro.

Very well done and of course the low mounted scope sets it off nicely (high mounts being my absolute pet hate). I like the understated Leupold on it too, not sure why you would want or need to change out to a Zeiss?
Personally I would push the 140 grainer faster than 2750fps, the 7x57 equaling if not surpassing the 7mm-08 which easily gets 2860fps to 2900fps from a 22" barrel. I currently load for four 7mm-08's in the family and have in the past loaded for and hunted with a classic BSA Hunter 7x57.

Very nice rifle and nice work. Who's bottom metal did you use and did you do the stock work yourself.

Changed the scope to Z3 Swaro, same physical size as the Leupold 2.5x8. Both excellent scopes but I like the Z3 focus better.
I know I could run a bit warmer but the Norma brass that I originally bought was showing pressure signs so I left it at 2750.
Has worked fine on lots of Sambar.

Thanks, I stocked it from the blank, did all the metal including the BM which I converted from the original 1908 just adding new guard and floorplate.

Winchester cases in general have a little more capacity than other brands or so I have found with 7mm-08 and 7mm WSM brass, hence can achieve higher velocity with normal pressures using suitable powder.
I too used IMR4320 powder in my BSA 7x57, 45.0grs with the Speer SP 145gr bullet in the Norma brass available about 35 odd years ago. This accurate load gave me an average 2864fps from the 24" barrel and was a good killer on red deer and chamois.
Although the above load showed normal pressures in my rifle I would caution about starting at this level in any rifle.

Similar style to my restocked Parker Hale 1200 M98 in .30-06.
My rifle has a longer forend. If stocked today I would do the forend shorter in a more English style.
Nontheless this modern classic style has class and is usuable with scopes.

Hi metal,
An almost perfect 7 mm Mauser Rifle, with an action originally set up for it !!!
I say almost because it lacks iron sights. This style looks naked without them. And I mean an usable, and regulated at 100 meters, simple set of sights.

Wonderful rifle!
I once had a 1913 Mauser rifle by Rigby, engraved on the barrel was, "regulated for 140 grain bullets
at 2740 fps". Apparently that velocity has been working well for a long time.
