OK, OK, not a "Bore Rifle" or Paradox but a very economical entry into the world of 8bore cartridge guns!

R. Wallis 26 Trothy Rd. Southwark Park Rd. London on the full length rib.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/26+Trothy+Rd

My desire is to use this gun as a shot & ball gun as the barrel is now 29.5" which almost certainly was once longer as most of these 8bore guns were well over 30"
If it is truly cut back and cylinder bore, it should fit the bill nicely.
I especially like the shape of the trigger guard and lever.

Overall, a nicely proportioned and high quality gun that is a good evolutionary step up from my Rodda muzzle loader.

Excellent notion!
I also thought a gun for the Light Goose conservation season in S. Colorado.
They pretty much want you to eradicate as many as you can...

Over decoys - devastating with #3 or #4 shot.
Both your limit and your buddy's with one shot.
REALLY nice gun. It will be interesting to see how it shoots with balls.
A hollowed wad would hold a slightly undersized ball in the middle of the bore.
That would likely result in no leading and just as good or perhaps even better accuracy.

Hmmm…..so the Light Goose does not come under the Fed Migratory Waterfowl Regs that torpedo any use of larger than 10 Bore? Interesting.

Mike- in Canada, the 8 bore is prohibited firearm, regardless that not factory ammo is made for it, even though that one is an antique.
Nothing over 10 bore here.

Ben, great buy. I like it.

What's the difference tween a 8 bore elephant gun and this? Other than maybe rifling? I would think some early ML 8 bores might have been smooth bores shooting ball.

Would your gun use similar powder charges i.e. in its case?

Dang!
Looks like Colorado doesn't allow any gun bigger than 10ga too.
Once I get some chamber measurements I'll know if brass or paper (plastic maybe) hulls will be needed.
Eyeballing the chamber, it looks like brass would be most likely.

Even on Turkey? Marmots? Rabbits? Coyote?" ……….. Barn Pigeons? (ignore the 8 Bore hole in your barn roof).

Not saying 8 Bore is a bit over gunned for such wild beasts, have to use what you have

Until May 1st 2021, 8 bores were fine here as long as they weren't used on migratory water fowl.
Since May 1st 2021, ALL(20 mil) which includes 8 bores or over, along with rifles producing over 7,375.6 fpe are prohibited.

Fantastic looking gun
I bet it balances well and handles well for it's weight

On the topic of rules and cartridge size, for hunting and field use around the state with shotshells, you can run a chamber adapter and use 10 gauge ammunition

Problem solved
Go hunting

Doesn't completely solve the shot and ball question, but I'd be looking at the language of the law to see if the regulation is solely written to govern shotshell use
Depending on the language, solid ball in 8-bore might actually be ok

I'm looking at the regulations, and the gauge restrictions are relative to bird hunting

As for big game hunting, I'm not seeing a restriction that would keep anyone from going with the 8-bore ball

Shock & Awe on the deer stand

There is a fellow in the upper midwest that has used a muzzle loading cannon with what I'd call "grape shot" (multiple 12 ga balls) to take a deer…..hopefully long past any chance of running afoul of some arcane statute of limitations issue…..

As far as I can see, the DOW is concerned more with minimum requirements for rifle.

From the Colorado Big Game regulations:

3. SHOTGUNS
a. Must be minimum 20 gauge and fire a single slug. Use of buckshot is illegal
for hunting big game.
b. Barrel must be a minimum of 18 inches long. Minimum overall length must
be 26 inches.

She'd be legal for sure for big game.

How would the 10 bore wads seal in the larger bores?

I wouldn't think all that well.
Maybe a greased cloth wad that is pliable and oversized for the case would open up and seal behind the hard wads - not sure.
I don't think I'll worry too much about using this gun for shotgun hunting, roundballs are my interest.

Didn't one of our members have a "Equatorial Rifle"? That's what I'm trying to emulate here...

I think the concept of chamber adapters success more applies to shells using modern shot cup type wads. the base of the shot cup would not have that far to flair out from modern 10Ga to 8Bore ….. nominally .775' to .835" so .060" total divided by 2 is only .030" each side.

Traditional card & fibre, greased cloth, whatever wads might not be a good solution to the chamber adapter…..
