Why would they bother? Gun makers build rifles that will sell, Id much rather a ruger in 416ruger than a 404.
Also see no real need or market for 9.3x64mm as the 375h&h or ruger have it covered and them some.

Here, it's the infusion of hundreds of used Husqvarna M98's and M96's from Sweden in 9.3x62, along with Ruger, Zastava and CZ in new rifles.

Good question Ripp?
Maybe either the .300H&H or .375 H&H???

Nitro, I think it has a bit to do with having something a bit different from every other Sheep in the Flock!
Every body has a .308, (Christ, I have 3 of em!) but I also like to have something with a bit of history attached to it and possibly some nostalgia, thrown in for good measure!!!
The wonderful thing about living in this "Kinda Democracy" is, CHOICE!
FMD, it would be a boring old world if we were all the same!!!

To me the most useful cartridges with magnum suffix are the old classics:

handgun: 44 Magnum

rifle: 300 H&H (rimmed and rimless)
375 H&H (rimmed and rimless)
400 H&H (yes, that one is not so old...)

Sorry Nitro, but I think you missed the mark - otherwise we'd all be using .378 Whetherby's or whatever has the biggest case next!
How many fine old cartridge are still out there in fine old pieces of hardware just waiting to be used again!
Wish I had a few more $ to spend on this stuff (read the Minister of War & Finance said "NO"), but this is why we like the oddball - would you throw away a .450NE just because the .458 Winnie does it better???? If so please feel free to PM any time & I'll take it off your hands free of charge!
Now I'd better get out of the way now as the rest of the mob here would trample me in the process first!

Agree with 9.3x64. I have not found another round that kills like my .338 Magnum on buffalo or other ferals, but it sits in the gun safe as I enjoy so much more using the old rifles I have.

Just don't like it.

I like the 375H&H far more.

I have always done well with mine. On chest shots I really liked the way it performed. Still anything through the heart does well. I have not used a 375 H&H That much but certainly no problems there. I used to use barnes x projectiles in the .338 but these days it sits in the safe. Much more fun with the 404. 338 was lightening on donkeys and brumbies. All in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

I have a few friends here in Northern BC who dearly love their .338's.

I've preferred the 9.3 (standard cases, magnum performance) and .375 H&H and '06IMP.

You aren't the only one who uses a 338WM well and it works.

Anything through the heart kills them but I reckon
the 375H&H makes a much bigger hole and shock when
it kits than a 338WM on Buffalo.

Agree, bigger is better.

Horses, Jesus they go down ! I've used 9.3 X 64 and 500/465- on a charging Stallion that didn't look like he was going to stop !!!

Interesting, I have heard that from a few people. That the .338 Win Mag does not work well on water buffalo. Yet a couple said the 8x68S does work well ... Does not seem logical. Maybe it is something to do with bullet construction?

If one means "magnum performance" rather than a belt, the .375 H&H is hardly a magnum performance cartridge today, but it still does what it is meant to and not badly at all.

Personally I really dislike increasing velocity beyond a certain sort of speed in a bigger bore rifle. Around the 2000 to 2600 fps speed. They aren't meant to be sniper rounds. Most scenarios anyway, and if shooting at soft skinned targets, is a big bore needed or desired?

If one wants more performance than a .375 or 9.3x64, upgrade to a .400 or .416. Want more, go to a .450/.458/.470, more? Go to a .500, then a .577 or .600. After that recovery time is getting really silly. Rather than more speed, a heavier bullet, with greater calibre is what works better.

And greater speed? Very few people buying a .378 Wby or .460 Wby ever consider if the bullets are built for those speeds and reliable expansion and penetration.

Why suffer the recoil for no added benefit?

Now if we are talking about longer distance rounds, we are talking about small to medium sized calibres, IMO.

9,3x70 DWM magnum for sentimental reasons

Among today's offerings it got be 375 Blaser Magnum, no stinking belt like on the outdated design 375 H&H
