I've got my ...I still need a ...
      #366935 - 21/06/22 07:26 PM

I've got my 10-bore Westley Richards double rifle. I have to use it, and write about it for the Explora!

I've got my WJ Jeffery old faithful. Zabardast, "awesome", .450 No 2 Nitro Express.

My Cogswell & Harrison, is probably a .500 BPE of some sort.

Some Steyrs and Mannlicher-Schoensuers, 6.5x53R, 6.5x54, 8x56, 9.5x57.

Still need a:
Purdey;
a Holland & Holland, of course;
a Rigby.
Among others.

What do you have? And need?

A "Good" 9.3x57 Husky M98 would suffice for me for a medium bore.
The 6.5x54 or 6.5x53R might be nice for nostalgic reasons.

I've got my 9.3x62 (and a line on another to rebuild as a carbine), and a 30-06 Mauser in my favorite configuration. I still need a good bolt .22LR that doesn't feel like a child's toy.

This isn't about what new cartridge, it's about quality makers and brands.

I also need a Heym so can shoot one when attending a Heym International shoot, if they ever hold one again.

Same reason a Rigby is needed.

EVERYONE should have a Dorleac.

Where are the usual collector posters? This was a thread perfect for them.

I have an older Anschutz .22 LR that is a real rifle. I'm not sure about the model # - thought M68 or maybe M38?
It's not for sale, just a suggestion.

Well, I just don't know.....but I'll know it when I see it!!!

Most of my stuff is German, named and anonymous. I do have a Jeffrey Rook rifle and had an E M Riley double in 500 BPE. My doubles now are a Merkel, Vierordt, Goldmann and most recently a 57 cal. Baestlein muzzleloading double.

Bolt rifles are 1903 an '08 M/S, several Mausers of various iterations and one especially by Johann Peterlongo of Innsbruck and another by Wilhelm Brenneke, Berlin. Drillings by T&S and and one unmarked as to maker and pre-1891-93 proof law. Single shots by Bartles, Outschar and Haenel/Aydt. A Jost & Diehl combination gun.

There's a Christoph Funk bolt rifle in the works. After that I'd have to go look.

From Johns first post: "What do you have? And need?"

I "have" more than I care to admit, but suffice to say with the exception of Purdy & Holland and Holland I have most of the major Brit makers covered. Both BP Express and Nitro and in an assortment of vintage calibers.

As posted elsewhere here, I did recently manage to acquire an original 1936 vintage Rigby Mauser in .275HV, so what more does a man really need?

As to want/need….well I was a bit late to the party and missed out on a nice Alexander Henry 10 bore double rifle.
A 4 bore rifle would be fun however they are typically priced way out of my comfort zone…..

For me firearms are like tools, everyone does a specific job, some are better than others but I get them for a reason.
As to what I would like...
An original Wilhelm Brenneke in one of his x64mm cartridges like sharps4590 has....lucky bugger!
As to the big names well that certainly would be a tough one, as to which calibre 450-400 of course, the old queen of the savanna.
Agree whole heartedly with John - "EVERYONE should have a Dorleac", in .275 Rigby HV of course
Yet I'd still like to get a simple BRNO fox in .22Hornet for the grand niece & nephews. They'll be moving onto a property in the near future, they'll need something with a bit more zing!

9.3, my Brenneke is in 7 X 64....with a 28 inch barrel!!! I bought a pair that were war trophies from the nephew of the gentleman who brought them home. The one I wanted was a Haenel/Rasch 1890 in 9 X 57 but I had to take them both. When I saw what the other was, the Brenneke, and examined it I decided to keep them both. Both rifles have quite nice pieces of lumber, I was surprised. They also were slathered with varnish, everywhere, wood, metal, on the barrels....they were pretty yucky but, I guess all that varnish preserved them for 70 years. Once I got them cleaned up and refinished they're pretty nice.
