Have to go back to try to read it. SO much advertising! Have to continually close it off. Can be quite hard to find the next bit.

John Snow, is that a real name? Hunted from South Africa in 2003 into Zimbabwe. Who did he hunt with then? Was it a legal Zimbabwe outfitter and hunt? Lots of inaccuracies in his article. "Many farmers killed during the farm invasions of white farms"? A few to my recollection. He had a convoy of "three vehicles".

He says 2022 Zim is now a stable country? I hope so. Thoroughly ffffed, broke, bankrupt, starving. But hopefully stable... I'd like to go back oneday.

Will have another try to read the hunting story, hidden among the tall adverts ...

Jon Snow shows the PH his expert knowledge.

Review of the ugly Nosler 21 rifle featured in the article with scenes from Zimbabwe, is my guess.

Reading the article they certainly need someone who knows how to cook ...

Quote:

That night we feasted too, eating the bull’s liver and Africa’s version of Rocky Mountain oysters. Abe Smit, who ran the camp, took cuts of meat and tossed them into the flames in our fire pit. He turned them once, pulled them from the fire, and used a knife to scrape off the smoking coals. We grabbed slices of meat, hot and dripping, with our fingers and dipped them in a pile of salt on the cutting board and ate like kings.

I thought that meat looked aweful first time scanning the article. I was right. I thought it might be bad photography. I was wrong about that.

The lioness bluff charge would have been fun.

Nice buffalo. Not a groomed off old Duggan Boy though. Sharp tips.

Nice sable. One day I hope to hunt them.

I hunted the Matetsi in 2001 when the warvets first hit the area. In August ? the week the so called warvets and police hit dozens of farms and harassed safari areas. Later the South African outfitters came to illegally hunt these areas with corrupt clients.

That night, as we drove up to Hwange National Park, some men tried to ambush us. They placed their truck at an angle across a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, trying to force us to stop. Our driver, a veteran of the Rhodesian Bush War, recognized the danger and floored the Land Rover’s gas pedal. He swerved to get around the truck, running over the would-be ambushers, who had been lying hidden in the grass. The sickening thuds were unmistakable. The two trucks following us did the same, and we never looked back.

.......... We were also supposed to hunt sables, but the situation was too hot even for our well-armed party. We cut the safari short and hightailed it back to South Africa.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. .......

Yes - sounds pretty shaky to me.
The bit about cooking the meat in the fire looks like something written 100years ago.

Aboriginals are always throwing a whole ungutted kangaroo onnhot coals here then eating it. Must be burnt in places and raw and shitty elsewhere. Even if a guest I will not partake. Ha once was even a abo cooking show where they did the above!

These guys had zero cooking skills. And no African cook to do it for them. At least thread meat slivers on tree sticks and grill it. Doesn't take too many brains.

Plus a meat only meal? Were they lost in the bush? No, had wine and booze afterwards.

Not eating "like kings".

I think a lot of those issues might be due to a South African based outfitter doing safaris in Zimbabwe? is the article.

A big issue around 2003 was when lots of South African outfitters did dodgy deals to hunt on stolen properties.

By law only Zimbabwean licensed outfitters and Zimbabwean licensed PHs could operate in Zimbabwe. A foreign outfitter and PH had to hire an Zim outfitter and/or Zim PH to conduct the safari. The SAf PH tagged along.

Driving over people "hidden" in the grass might also get people in the "heat" .... Even in Zimbabwe.

I was aware of the "throw the meat on the fire" deal in Australia with the aboriginals, but certainly would not expect that on a "paid" safari, is all.
Like you said, all meat?
