Good suggestions. Odd times bullet hardness is the key.
I had excellent results in a McGowen .50 barrel using grease groove bullets cast 50:50 with pure lead and crimp-on old style alloyed WW with BP loads.
The bullets were .513" in diameter & fit nicely in a fired case. These were used in an Italian Rolling block action. The bore diameter was .510".
