Holland & Holland Arisaka
      #363585 - 16/03/22 04:16 PM

Hello

I have seen reference to these and communicated with a previous owner on another forum. Unfortunately he had no pictures (pre-internet) and did not have much info on provenance. Apparently it was of high quality (no surprise considering the maker) and chambered in 6.5x54 MS

Does anyone have any additional info on these conversions and hopefully some pictures? I would love to know more and see some pictures

allways said give H&H a crude wartime made mosin or carcano and they can make a best gun out of this

Just my opinion mind you but I could see this as a G&H but not a H&H. Again IMO. I say this because back in the 80's I understand from Don Allen that the H&H English won't even talk to the Italian gunmakers when in the same room. Let alone work an Arisaka. Stuckup is a word that describes best. (H&H maybe a little less then Purdey) Can't imagine them working on an Arisaka. However just to set the record straight I had the fortune to go to H&H just one time. They treated me like I was king even though they knew I had no intention of buying or even could I afford anything. Gave us the full tour including the work shop. Long story why but that maybe for a different day.

Don't take what I said too seriously, all in fun.

The source who owned it is a reputable collector who has owned many fine vintage rifles, honestly I am surprised he does not post here. Definitely an H&H, definitely an arisaka, certainly real.

If a clapped out Mauser made by a third reich forced labourer can be fashioned into a fine sporting rifle by a competent gunsmith anywhere in the world I have no doubt an Arisaka could be turned into a fine rifle by a British maker. Presumably not a recent production. Jingoistic posturing aside Arisakas with the exception of late model rifles when the Japanese were on verge of destruction are well made rifles from what I have seen.

Honestly and all sarcasm aside I’m surprised Lancaster has not heard of one, must be very rare indeed

Supposing one could actually contact H&H and ask them?

don't forget they had some hard times in the 1960s/70s before the interest in double rifles start again when they were happy about any job
