Didn't think Marlin was doing it wrong to begin with.. I have the exact model shown in that pic from about 8 years ago.. works perfectly and is very accurate..it's my camping bear gun and saddle gun if I horse ride into Griz country..

Ruger needs to sell a ton of weapons so the mags are doing the biding for them, IMHO.. been seeing articles about this now for over 6 months.. NOT that big of diff IMHO to have such a large media expose'

I bought one of the Remington versions. It was not as accurate nor seemingly as well made as my old .444 nor the model 1895 I had from 10 to 15 years back.

They are still making the forends too "bulbous". I do prefer Winchester-style forends.

Ohhhhhh…..Sorry but, that thing is ugly……..millenial tastes I guess?
- make a freight train take a dirt road
- sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink
- tie a pork chop around it's neck to get the dog to play with it
- it's so ugly the tears would run down the back of it's face…

Still, it is made by Ruger so likely nice and reliable.
Loose the fat forend, ghetto looking front sight, and silly ass picatinny rail….then we can talk.

I shot one of the Marlin carbine 18 1/2" 45/70's that looked kinda like that one, but think it had a regular lever.
The load was 49gr. RE#7, seems to me, with a 400gr. Barnes FN.
That load was listed in Speer's book with a 400gr. Speer FN, at 1,830fps or so from a 22" bl.

From Gord's short "Guide Gun" Marlin, it ran 2,004fps. Gord had told me earlier that it was 2,007fps with the book load and I said "bullshit". So, we repaired to the range and that's what I got on my Pact Timer, 2,004 fps.

I very much prefer my Model 86/71. My stock has much nicer wood than this one.

Plain wood, plain steel, Takedown Model, .45-90 that also shoots 45-70.

Dead accurate and deadly.

I agree - it's quite nice, smooth and handles nicely with 450gr. Buffalo Barn hard cast FN's @ 1,700fps. Now, to shoot something other than paper and steel with them!

I totally agree! I've had a 16" 50AK for about 20 years as my cabin/truck camping bear gun and that is my only complaint. I've thought about rasping it down but I like the checkering too, so I've only got my own indecisiveness to blame! It does give a little bit of a ledge to hold on to but feels too big in my hand. Mine is cut down to a 12.5" LOP to fit wearing full winter kit so its easy to hit my nose if not paying attention.

I can't wait until they get around to making 1894s!

They need to ramp up production. Saw a new one at the local gun show last weekend, asking price was $2600.

That's insane.. No way I'd pay anywhere near that..

On the flip side.Local store had a new Winchester 1892 model takedown in..high grade wood.nice color case hardening on the receiver...really nice looking and feeling lever... If it had been in 45 Colt I would have bought it. But it was in 357 Mag...

A new 92 would be fun, in the right calibre, of course.
On the '92, does the rear end of the barrel have a scooped feed ramp like on a 1911 Colt?
That is the way my 94 in .45 Colt was. I could only use RP brass for the .44 mag./pressure loads I was using due to that ramp. No other brass was strong enough in the web for those loads in THAT rifle.
