Comment: Merkel 470 NE with 20 rounds of brass (half unfired), reloading dies, 2 snap caps and leather travel case. Moving this rifle on to fund other things, I’m the second owner and used this rife in the NT whilst guiding for buffalo and the previous owner took it to Africa twice. Shoots really well and is nicely regulated, small marks in stock and some wearing of blue on barrel as all double will have from being carried in the field. Has fired approximately 60 rounds from new.

I love their shotguns.. rifles, not so much.. I know others do like them, which is fine, just not for me.. back in the early 2000's perhaps 2006, I purchased a new one from Scheels in Iowa for $7200.. shot it a bit and sold it 4 months later for a nice profit.. picked up a used Westley Richards shortly after.. absolutely love that double..

Ripp, you have often mentioned that WR 470. Tell us a bit more about it. Have you ever hunted with it.

Here is an example of an affordable useful double rifle. A .470, suitable for any dangerous game. Merkel, Todd reliable honest double rifle. $9,000 while not change, is not excessive compared to what a lot of really crap rifles sell for on usedguns 1500 to 2500 not uncommon. 4500 for some handguns now. 9000 for a second hand dr, much better value.

I would buy this myself!

That's a good price - that's what I paid for my secondhand 500NE Merkel (same model as above) back in 2012.

Have NOT taken it to Africa.. plan to..if/when this covid fiasco ever gets over.. actually talked to a PH a couple weeks back..really want to do a buffalo hunt with it..

It is a very basic model built in 1910 left the factory in 1911 to its original owner.. Per the letter I received from WR...

I picked it up a the Safari Club show in Reno back in 2007-from George..double gun dealer out of Seattle..-I bought it and booked a lion hunt in Zim. the same day.. I had it checked out by the gunsmith Westly Richards recommended at the time as WR's USA office was located in the town I reside in for some years.. no idea where the US office is now or if there even is one. The rifle patterns incrdibly well..in fact the gunsmith called me and said "You need to hunt with this one. She is a shooter".. It is a very easy and pleasant double to shoot.. one of the favorites I have ever fired..

I had become friends with WR crew at the time, so I went with Kevin occasionally testing the firearms people were consigning for sale.. lots of really cool doubles including a double owned by Mr Ruger himself.. very expensive double ..

Who was in charge of that office at the time? I received an email complementing NE. And the benefit of NE to the double rifle world. I lost the email!!! Was from WR. Either Simon in London or from your local office.
