Impressive goat. That was a tiny, perhaps starving & likely 2-year old bear.

Honestly I had never heard of that happening before... I am sure it has.. Didn't think that was very likely to happen..

Wow I didn't know mountain goats grew to that size - they're not small animals!

AND they are super tough.. can really soak up the lead ..which is why, if you can, break both front shoulders with the first shot so they cant jump..

I shot my first one at about 100 yards with a 300Win mag.. hit him hard, he dropped, got back up and took off running across the rock slide.. hit him again and he dropped in the slide..

Have been on numerous hunts for these, where the first shot isn't perfect.. once the adrenaline gets going, it can be along day tracking them..

Yes- they are tough and as well, they are jumpers, just like sheep.
Nasty way to end a trophy hunt, with broken off horns & bruised meat.

Unfortunately they come here in that shape way too often. It is always sad to see such a splendid trophy wasted.

20 or so years ago a Mountain Goat killed a back packer in the Olympic National Park, Washington State, USA. I live about 5 miles from the north park boundary, it is on the Olympic Peninsula in the NW corner of Washington state.

The hiker was gored in the upper thigh and bled out. He was hiking solo, a search party found him a few days after he died. I have been in the area where the hiker met his death.

The Goats here have no fear and are notorious camp robbers, searching for anything containing salt like potato chips. I banged one over the head with a camera tripod as he was tearing up my back pack, after the chips in the pack.

Yea, a mature male is big, close to 400 pounds and armed with a pair of 10 inch daggers on the head.
