I just got my first 9.3x62 (in a Husqvarna 1640 Mauser) and so have been reading up on it inbetween reloading some 285 grain Oryx and 250 Accubonds. Going to have to find some BIG red stags now. Or make a trip to Australia...

I found the story again about Don Heath shooting the elephant that fell on him with a 9.3, he wrote about the cartridge as well, and it occured to me what rifle his 9.3x62 was, if anybody knows? Was it a CZ/Brno?

I'm pretty sure it was a CZ or Brno. Can't say 100% but knowing Don, I think it would be.

Maybe someone could say 100%?

I have never read that story. Where is it recorded?

Knew Don since the early 2000s, met him at the Norma factory in Sweden and had mutual friends. He"s been gone for a few years now. Was a good bloke to chat with on choice subjects.

Hello,

I am pretty sure Don's 9,3x62 was a BRNO ZG47.

Best!

I read from someone yesterday that was discussing it with him and he was using a department issue 416Remington. That was Phil Shoemaker

I had always thought It was a 9.3x62 too. Don’t know why.

Scratch that. Just read an old post elsewhere which included an email reply from Don stating it was a Mauser 9.3x62 using Norma solids.

I liked Dons writings. RIP.

I wonder what happened to the huge cache of colonial era firearms Don secretly was discussing? Hundreds of muskets or bp rifles. Perhaps Martini-Henrys? Handguns. All sorts. Discovered in Zimbabwe.

Don contacted me, probably others, to ask how he or they, should deal with the huge cache of old antique era firearms. Some I think pristine, never fired.

I know I wanted some personally! I suggested they be dribbled out slowly if they could.
