4-bore and water buffalo video

Several years ago I got the opportunity to hunt in the NT with a great group of guys (Cal, Scotty, Steve, Mike). Cal's good friend Greg came along and generously filmed. At the time a bunch of us posted pictures and a description here. It was a great time.

A couple years ago a buddy out of state was considered a similar hunt and asked me what I thought. I put a couple of film clips in a youtube video and sent him a link rather than email a huge file. I'm not a computer guy but I was using an ancient one at the time and the uploaded video didn't have the best resolution. Going through an old computer this weekend I found the original hidef files, so I posted them here:

As an amusing note about however youtube works, after I put up that original video to share with a friend it got a couple hundred views in 2 1/2 years, far less than one per day. The video's description was just the date, location, outfitter, guns used, etc. About 6 months ago I was finally editing another video and saw this one still in my account. Being a wise-ass, I changed the description to be some fluff about fighting global warming by reducing the carbon footprint of invasive species (ie, killing them). It immediately started getting 100s of views a day, up from almost zero. As an experiment after a few weeks I pasted back in the old description for a month and it immediately went back to zero. Put back in the climate change crap and it shot right back up. Seems silly to me.

I am amazed the smoke from that old 4 bore didn't drive the greenes over the edge.

That's a lot of gun to lug around in that heat, however it definitely hits bloody hard.

Not taking anything away from the video or shooting, both excellent but I wouldn't draw a conclusion from those two shots that the 4 bore hits hard. The first shot very much looking like a neck shot, the second buff definitely neck shot if not behind the ear. The 4 bore probably does hit hard, at both ends, but any big bore or even medium bore with those neck shots would have the same effect.
Chest or shoulder shots are what will sort the boys from the men when judging knock down or heavy hitting and the 4 bore should produce the goods, just this video doesn't show that aspect.

Eagle, the first shot shown went just behind the left shoulder and was poking through the skin on the point of the right, so I'm sure it broke it which is what caused the sudden fall. I thought I had some pictures of digging the ball out from the rubbery hide but couldn't find them.

The 2nd shot was behind the ear around the 7 o'çlock or 7:30 position and exited the right cheek. When it was going straight away I was hoping it would turn and show anything more vital than its hind quarters, so took the shot when it stuck its neck out. I totally agree that any decent solid (and probably most softs) would have certainly done exactly the same thing. Cheers, Bob
