Got Gibbs?
      #358981 - 09/12/21 12:56 AM

Always my favorite single shot actions, I had been looking for a decent .303 for sometime. This one will do until I get the action I am building into a rifle done. Restored in the UK, I will have some clean up to do on the outside of the barrel as it once upon a time wore a scope. Should be a fun one. You hardly ever see a cased Gibbs sporter.

“Got Gibbs?”

Why yes , yes I do…

I like this rifle!
Not all can be Best quality and I’ve a hunch that being Best quality was the death knell for many a Gibbs Farquharson as that seems to be what the custom varmint rifle guys were breaking up back in the day.

I assume it's a .303. Very nice indeed.

You are one very lucky bloke Bouldersmith!
I hope this one stays as is....with a nice light restoration where needed - looks pretty spiffy to me though!

That's a great rifle.

While I don't have a Gibbs, I do have a best quality Fraser .303 single shot.

Fortunately, there’s still room in the Gibbs Owners Club for the the uninitiated…

That's a beautiful gun that's for sure.

I almost bought something similar but the barrel was chewed up from being stored for a long time (years) after firing and not being cleaned.

But that just looks in brilliant condition, it definitely deserves to see some use on game and the 303brit is a great old round sadly under used these days.

If the chamber is good, it could be re-bored and rifled in say, .8mm/303 or .35/303.

.303 brass easily necks up for the larger ctgs., 8mm, .35 and .375. I made some of them some time ago just to look at.
I kept a few and even have head-stamped .27/303 case in the box.
The .35/303 is a good looking round. I think if I was to go to the .37/303, as done by Ken Waters, I'd go with the improved case.

I missed that one, probably for the best as I would have liked a 303 British, that's one calibre I've always liked that I've never owned.

A local friend of mine has had at least one .303 since he was a little kid.
When I met him at the Jail in June of 1979, that's when he started work there, we pretty much instantly became friends.
To this day, he still has at least 2, .303's in P14's, one of which has a new .308 barrel I had chambered with an altered .303 reamer so it can handle factory ammo if necessary, without problems- and it does. He can shoot any .308 diameter bullet out of it as well, including the 220gr. varieties.
The rifle prefers 150gr. Hornady Interlocks at about 2,800fps.

Ones definitely on my bucket list, either a Martini action or Lee speed although I'd probably do build for that one.
